"The Eighth Gate... open!"
As if a ferocious beast had finally broken free of its shackles, Might Guy erupted with a surge of dark red chakra. Scalding steam burst outward in all directions. Two wilted cherry blossom trees, thick with vines, were uprooted and slammed to the ground, cracking loudly as they fell.
The Eighth Gate—the Gate of Death.
Might Guy had already considered opening it. And he'd felt ashamed for hesitating. He was the noble Blue Beast of Konoha—how could he waver over something like this?
Wasn't it only right to open the Gate of Death to avenge his closest friend, Kakashi?
To eliminate the mastermind threatening the Land of Fire, what did it matter if he had to give his life?
He had trained relentlessly, day and night, all for the sake of this one, critical moment—to bloom brilliantly in battle!
A raging storm of power surged around Guy, cloaking him in a violent aura. Cracks began forming on his face like fragile porcelain, and his blood—seething like molten magma—spilled and evaporated into steam as it flowed.
Sasuke frowned as a wall of thick, oppressive mist shrieked like a chorus of wailing spirits, morphing into a mass of writhing tentacles aimed straight at Guy.
Guy's eyes bulged, glowing with an intensity that seemed ready to explode. Chakra surged wildly from his body. The instant he jumped, the ground beneath his feet cracked and shattered.
The misty tendrils struck only air. In the blink of an eye, Guy countered with a devastating punch. The red steam generated by Evening Elephant roared like a furious dragon, tearing through the mist and pushing it back with sheer force. Against the blaze of Guy's overflowing life force, the decaying aura of the mist thinned and weakened.
The miasma of rot dispersed, and for a brief moment, it struggled to reassemble.
But Guy wasn't unscathed. His punch had grazed the mist at close range, and even that brief contact left lingering symptoms. The cracks on his face deepened, and his entire body began to burn from the inside out. Anyone could see that the forbidden technique was draining the very essence of his life.
Tsunade and Jiraiya looked on with grim faces. When they'd made the plan for this ambush, they never imagined it would go this badly. Guy was their last card. If even he failed, the consequences would be catastrophic.
And yet, Guy was still smiling, beaming radiantly as ever.
"Kakashi... my dearest friend, my eternal rival... I'm coming to join you soon!"
With that declaration, Might Guy unleashed the ultimate taijutsu of this world—Night Guy.
The red steam coalesced into the shape of a dragon, twisting space itself as it surged forward in a furious kick aimed at Sasuke.
Walls of mist rose up in front of Sasuke like a fortress, only to be torn apart one after another. Night Guy, blazing with heat and force, smashed through everything and sent Sasuke flying. He crashed to the ground, carving a deep crater into the earth.
Sasuke's body lay embedded in the pit. His clothes were torn to shreds, but he didn't care. After all, Uchiha Madara once faced the Allied Shinobi Forces in nothing but a pair of shorts. Sasuke wasn't about to back down.
His chest had been split open by the kick, caved inward into a gaping hole. Jagged bits of white bone jutted from the shredded flesh. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself upright, his face dark and cold. He touched the wound lightly, wincing from the pain, then wiped the blood from his face.
"Damn... as expected of Might Guy," he muttered. "The man who nearly kicked the story to its final chapter."
Sasuke let out a sinister chuckle. His shattered chest began to pulse, releasing a blood-colored mist. It writhed, dissolving dead organs and tissue, then rapidly reshaped itself into new flesh. The wound closed, though the new tissue looked twisted and strange.
Guy clenched his jaw as he stared at Sasuke's completely healed form. With a loud roar, he launched himself forward again. His body streaked through the air like a crimson comet—and once again, Sasuke took the full force of the blow.
This time, Guy didn't give him a chance to recover.
His fists and feet rained down like a violent storm, pummeling Sasuke into the ground. His skin tore apart, bones shattered into dust, and from a distance, he looked like a broken ragdoll. Only when Guy's time had nearly run out did the assault finally pause.
His body, ravaged by the Gate of Death's backlash, was falling apart. Unless someone like the Sage of Six Paths intervened with Yin-Yang Release, nothing could save his life now.
"Guy!" Tsunade screamed, eyes brimming with tears as she poured chakra into medical ninjutsu. In that moment, she felt like the helpless young girl she once was—watching her lover die and unable to do anything.
...
Elsewhere, Sasuke fell from midair, crashing into the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust. His once-handsome face was unrecognizable. His body had become a grotesque mass of ruined flesh. Only his Sharingan still glowed—two blood-red points in the horror of his disfigured form.
"Now! Finish him off!" Jiraiya shouted, clutching his chest. Sasuke might look dead, but there was no room for error—they had to make sure.
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
A group of ninja moved as one, unleashing a blazing inferno upon Sasuke's mutilated form.
"Finally... he's dead for real this time, right?" Jiraiya let out a slight breath of relief. If Uchiha Sasuke really was the mastermind behind all this, then killing him would end most of their troubles.
He turned his eyes away from the 'Sasuke barbecue' and back to Guy. The man was still breathing—barely—but Tsunade refused to give up. Jiraiya tried to persuade her.
"If we somehow manage to save him like this... his remaining days will be nothing but agony."
The shinobi world had no place for excessive, meaningless life support.
...
"Ahhh!!"
A sudden scream tore through the air. Jiraiya and Tsunade spun around—and what they saw froze them in place.
That pile of half-cooked, shattered meat on the ground... was trembling.
It stood up.
Barely hanging onto a humanoid shape, Sasuke rose. His two Mangekyō were barely connected to the sockets by strands of flesh, and he stared at everyone with a savage, murderous glare.
The sight was the stuff of nightmares.
Freed from the limits of human form, Sasuke had completely unshackled himself. With a sickening squelch, he jumped—his body morphing into a writhing mass of meat as he launched himself toward Might Guy.
Tsunade immediately stepped in front of Guy. Chakra surged into her fist. With monstrous strength, she punched the creature back.
A disgusting sound echoed as flesh was torn apart. Sasuke split into two grotesque puddles.
From the one on the left, a grotesque vocal organ emerged.
"Heehee! I, Uchiha Sasuke, am immortal! Mwahahaha!"
"What a monster..." Tsunade's expression twisted in revulsion. A deep, primal fear of blood welled up in her heart—but she forced it down with sheer will.
Hemophobia? She didn't have the luxury of being squeamish now. No matter how sick she felt, she had to endure.
The two blobs of flesh wriggled toward Guy again, splitting further as they moved. Tsunade did her best to shield him—but in doing so, she left herself open.
One small strand of sticky, decaying meat splattered onto her foot...
