Chapter 44 - Learning Medical Ninjutsu

Kunoichi Medical-nin at the counter replied to Kaiji's request. "Oh, you wish to learn Medical Ninjutsu?

For that you have to talk with Department head, Taichi-sama.

But you might not be able to meet him, so you have to meet Sora-senpai, Aoi-senpai and Akane-senpai. They are the one who you need to ask, if you wish to learn Medical Ninjutsu."

Kaiji then asked, "And where can I find them?"

The Kunoichi pointed her finger upwards.

"On the second floor you may find Akane-senpai and ask her or maybe other seniors as well in room of staff." She instructed.

Kaiji thanked her and moved upwards to the second floor.

In Sunagakure, Elder Chiyo was the leader of the Puppetry Brigade Department and held direct authority in the domain of puppetry.

However, even with that primary role, she was a highly skilled medical ninja herself, renowned for her knowledge of poisons and antidotes.

Although her skill level in the Medical department was not as high as Tsunade's legendary level, she was very highly versatile there as well.

Plus, aside from these two departments, she was also highly skilled in Sealing practices in the village.

So, even though she was the Head of the Puppetry Brigade Department, her considerable expertise in both medical and sealing Jutsu gave her a position of high authority and influence over these two departments as well, despite her not being the formal Head of these departments.

Kaiji reached the second floor. He saw a room labeled 'Staff'.

He lightly knocked on the door, a soft knock knock.

But the door was slightly open as it wasn't locked.

He made a small glance into the room.

He saw a Blue-haired Kunoichi inside, wearing medical garments.

She was sleeping on a chair, with her head resting on her arms on the table.

Kaiji entered the room and saw that aside from her, no one else was present.

He looked at the Kunoichi again, thinking if he should wake her up or not.

Even though he didn't know firsthand how tough or busy the work of the Medical Department was, he knew one thing: it was a highly demanding task.

Most medical ninjas were obviously very tired since medical ninjas in the village were way less numerous than ninjas in other departments.

So Kaiji hesitated to wake the sleeping blue-haired Kunoichi Medical-nin, thinking he might disturb a precious rest period she might have barely managed to get in her busy schedule.

While he was contemplating, the Kunoichi was already awake because of him.

She got up, stretching lightly while letting out a soft yawn.

She looked at Kaiji and asked, "What are you here for, kid?" Her voice slightly groggy.

Kaiji bowed. "Hello, I am Kaiji," he said. "I wish to learn Medical Ninjutsu, so I want ask where is Akane-san..."

The Kunoichi interrupted, now more alert. "Oh!" she said.

"So you wish to learn Medical Ninjutsu, huh? Well, I am Akane."

She scanned him up and down, "And from the look of you..." she paused, "...Um, are you newly graduated Genin?"

Kaiji nodded in response and thought internally, 'How did these people even guessed that I am a newly graduated Genin? I mean, how they guessed it by looking at my face? It's not like it's written on my face?'

Akane continued. "Well, it's a good thing you want learn Medical Ninjutsu, we are already low on staff..." she said, a hint of relief in her voice.

"Um... sorry," Kaiji interrupted softly, "but I only wants to learn some basic healing jutsu, not to become a full fledged medical ninja."

The blue-haired girl looked at him with surprise.

She scanned Kaiji up and down again, trying to understand his unusual request.

Kaiji slightly scratched his brown hair embarrassingly, a faint scratch.

It was because the Ninjas who chose to learn Medical Ninjutsu were either those who came to realize that they were not fit for actual combat or those who wanted knowledge about poison and antidotes by understanding and gaining Medical knowledge.

But no one came to learn Medical Ninjutsu just to learn some basic healing jutsu for self-care.

Most ninjas in current era believed that Medical Ninjutsu was only for the weak, and that was largely the truth at the time.

This was also the reason why, in Konoha, Tsunade's request about making one medical ninja in each squad was declined; every village only focused on nurturing their combat forces of Ninjas rather than focusing on medical support.

"This is the first time I have seen someone who wants to learn Medical Ninjutsu just for self care stuff," she said, accepting his choice.

"Well, it's your choice, I wouldn't have any say in it.

But since you don't want to become a proper medical ninja, so you wouldn't be personally be trained by any Medical Ninja."

Kaiji asked how he would learn then. "Then how am I going to learn..." he began.

Akane quickly provided the answer, "Come with me," she instructed.

"I will give you some theoretical books and scrolls, and you have to practice stuff yourself without anyone's guidance."

Kaiji nodded, understanding what she meant.

He himself wasn't much expecting to be personally taught by someone and getting guidance.

He had expected this kind of response.

But he was happy nonetheless that he would at least get to learn Medical Jutsu, even though he had to learn it by himself through theoretical books.

She took him to a room that was filled with heavy books on bookshelves.

The blue-haired Kunoichi gave him a piece of crucial advice.

"One thing, kid, for medical ninjutsu, just like other Jutsus, chakra control is paramount."

She emphasized, "You need to have a good level of chakra control."

With saying that, she picked out five incredibly heavy books from various bookshelves.

She slammed them onto the table in the room with a loud slam, which made the table slightly creak under the weight, a faint creak.

Kaiji gulped, looking at the thickness of the books.

He asked stammeringly, "D-do I n-need to read all these first?"

Akane smiled mischievously and just nodded to him, confirming the daunting task ahead.
