Ava took a breath.
"I was standing on the balcony, just trying to get some air. I didn't hear anything… until the glass shattered. She—Olivia—came through the window with a knife. She screamed at me, accused me of taking everything. I was terrified, mostly for the baby…"
Her voice cracked.
"She tried to stab me. But Liam jumped in. He saved me. He got hurt in the process."
The prosecutor nodded, then gestured, "No further questions."
The defense attorney approached.
"Miss Ava… would you say Olivia seemed out of control? Confused? Not thinking clearly?"
Ava stared at him.
"No. She knew exactly what she was doing. She looked at me like she wanted me gone. There was hate in her eyes. She came to kill."
The courtroom was silent. The defense attorney stepped back, defeated.
Next, Liam was called up.
He walked to the stand, upright despite the sling on his arm. His voice was calm but carried an edge.
