Chapter 18 - TAKE CARE OF MATTERS INDEPENDENTLY FROM NOW ON

As I was making a line at the cafeteria to buy food, Fuuto unexpectedly found me. Honestly, I was not in the mood to engage in conversation and simply wanted to have a normal day.

"Hey, Daisuke," Fuuto interjected, cutting in line to speak to me. However, some individuals behind me in the line were visibly upset that Fuuto had done so.

"Hey, make it in line, buddy," the individual behind me said, having red mid-length hair and a small scar on his forehead, standing at approximately 6'2".

"Do you mind, pal? I have something to talk to him," Fuuto replied, smiling at him. However, the individual got closer to Fuuto and grabbed his uniform, becoming increasingly upset.

"That's not my problem, pal," Fuuto responded, visibly irritated. He stared at the individual, emphasizing that he had no time for this problem and simply wanted to speak to me directly.

"I guess I am your problem now, pal," Fuuto said, his face turning red as he grabbed the individual's wrist. As they continued their altercation, I had already finished getting my food.

"Hey, guys, people don't have time for this kind of problem," I said to the individual, sternly looking at him. "I suggest forgetting what happened and letting him go."

The individual turned back, and even the people behind them were visibly upset if this would escalate into a fight. They wanted to eat and had no time for such a conflict. The individual released Fuuto and continued waiting in line for him to get food. Fuuto, visibly annoyed by such behavior, couldn't stand people like him.

"Fuuto, you could have just waited out the line,"

As I turned around to find a seat, Fuuto followed me as he adjusted his shirt over his uniform.

"First, I want to express my gratitude," Fuuto began, intending to inquire about what had transpired in class. However, I interrupted him.

"Look, Fuuto, if it pertains to what occurred in class, I am not inclined to discuss it," I replied, taking a seat and seeking a suitable location to consume my meal. As I settled down, I opened my chopsticks and commenced eating. My meal consisted of a vegetable dish, a small fish and meat dish, a grain dish, and milk for refreshment.

"You cannot disregard Ayu throughout the day," Fuuto remarked.

"I am not, but I simply do not wish to engage in a discussion about it," I responded, continuing to eat. Nevertheless, I found it challenging to eat properly because Fuuto persisted in prompting me to recall what had transpired in class and the establishment frequented by the elderly gentleman.

"I wager you did not inform Ayu about our conversation, particularly regarding the individual who stalked her," Fuuto reminded me of that situation. However, I remained silent as I ceased eating, placed my chopstick down, and looked down.

"No… I have not," I replied to him.

"Are you serious? We have already discussed this matter, and yet, you persist in not disclosing it," Fuuto inquired.

"It is not that Fuuto. I genuinely desire to inform her, but the concern is that if I do so, she may become overly preoccupied with matters beyond her current responsibilities as president council," I became agitated because Fuuto failed to comprehend my perspective. I continued the conversation.

"Furthermore, when she assumes the presidency, she will be burdened with numerous responsibilities and considerations," I explained, looking down at the subject matter.

"Come on… it is acceptable, I understand your concern for Ayu and your desire for her well-being, but… you must comprehend that it is not equitable for her to care and worry about you without being informed of the truth or harboring secrets from you. This is not fair to her," Fuuto reassured me as I looked down.

"You must inform her, regardless of the nature of the matter. You must be honest with her," Fuuto looked at me, and I nodded in agreement, looking at him directly.

"I simply do not want her to be concerned about this," I expressed my sadness, simply wanting things to be straightforward.

"However, you are only exacerbating her worries," Fuuto informed me that he had to get up and return to class.

"It is preferable to tell her than to keep it a secret. It is for the best, Daisuke. Please inform her today after school. This situation must cease immediately, and today you must speak with her. She cares about you," Fuuto left his seat and left me alone. As I sat down, contemplating my situation, I once again returned to eat my food, feeling a sense of sadness.

. As I was dining, I couldn't help but reflect on how absurd my situation was. I distinctly recall my aunt, Yumi, advising me that life is not devoid of imperfections. There are indeed instances when life presents challenges and uncertainties. The realization overwhelmed me, and I found myself unable to continue eating. Consequently, I rose and disposed of my lunch, along with a small portion of the milk I had consumed, in the trash. However, as I did so, the bell rang, signaling the commencement of class for everyone, including myself.

"Fuuto, I must inform her of my situation," I mentally resolved. "It is imperative that I address her concerns and provide her with the truth. I cannot continue to burden her with worry and conceal important matters. I must tell her today after school."

Although Fuuto's assistance has been invaluable, I recognize that this is my relationship, and I must assume responsibility and take care of matters independently from now on.
