~Bella's POV
"I'm not going anywhere," Alex said again, and this time his voice was even softer. It made something warm spread through my chest.
I didn't realize I'd been holding back tears until one slipped down my cheek.
He saw it right away.
"Hey," he whispered, brushing it gently with his thumb. "Don't cry."
"I'm just… overwhelmed," I said, laughing a little through the tears. "Today's been a lot."
"I know," he nodded. "You've been through so much."
I sniffled. "I went from hugging Mia's hand to crying in prison to now hugging you in the living room."
He chuckled. "That's a full day."
"I didn't even eat dinner."
"Let's fix that then," he said, standing up. "I'll make something."
I followed him to the kitchen, watching as he opened the fridge and started pulling things out.
"What are you making?" I asked, leaning against the counter.
"Hmm… how about scrambled eggs, toast, and tea?"
I smiled. "That's breakfast."
"Breakfast for dinner. Classic comfort food."
