After two days of travel, Ryuji, Tanjiro, and the others reached the foot of Mount Natagumo in the late evening.
Zenitsu trembled violently, clinging tightly to Ryuji's neck and legs. Ryuji sighed in exasperation.
"Zenitsu, you don't need to be this scared! I won't leave you! Get off!" Ryuji ordered.
Zenitsu didn't move, saying, "Ryuji-senpai, don't you feel something's wrong with this mountain?"
"Wrong? What's wrong?" Ryuji hadn't noticed anything unusual.
"There are screams everywhere! It's terrifying! Many people must be dead!" Zenitsu said.
Ryuji hadn't heard any screams. But Zenitsu's hearing was exceptional; he could hear things others couldn't. The screams were probably just wind echoing through the mountains. Or perhaps Zenitsu could hear the voices of the dead.
"Ryuji-senpai, can we not go up?" Zenitsu asked.
Ryuji shook his head, "If you heard screams, something terrible happened. Those who screamed are likely dead. We need to investigate!"
"Scaredy-cat!" Inosuke taunted Zenitsu.
"You're the scaredy-cat, pig-faced woman!" Zenitsu retorted.
"Scaredy-cat wants to fight?" Inosuke challenged, ready to fight.
Tanjiro stopped Inosuke; Ryuji warned him, "This isn't the time for childish squabbles! If Zenitsu doesn't want to go, he can wait here."
Inosuke, seeing Ryuji intervene, calmed down.
Suddenly, Tanjiro's face changed; he turned and ran. Inosuke followed. Ryuji pulled Zenitsu off his back, throwing him to the ground, and then chased after them.
Zenitsu panicked, complaining, "Again?!" He reluctantly followed.
After running a few dozen meters, they saw someone lying on the road. Tanjiro exclaimed, "It's a Demon Slayer in uniform!"
The Demon Slayer, sensing them, looked up and cried, "Help me! Please!"
