Zenitsu, having just sat down to rest beside Inosuke, hadn't even gotten comfortable when Inosuke suddenly awoke. He jumped up, looked at Zenitsu, and yelled, "Duel! I challenge you to a duel!"
"Damn it! Again?!" Zenitsu leaped up and ran.
Inosuke chased after him, shouting, "Don't run! Let's duel!"
"Who wants to duel a violent maniac?!" Zenitsu retorted angrily.
Zenitsu immediately hid behind Nezuko.
Inosuke saw Ryuji and the others digging and stopped, asking, "What are you doing?"
Ryuji and Tanjiro stopped working. Tanjiro explained, "We're burying the dead. Inosuke, come help."
Inosuke showed no interest in helping, refusing, "What's the point of burying corpses? I'm not doing that! I won't help!"
—"Forget that. Let's duel!"
Inosuke again urged Tanjiro to stop and duel him.
"Is this guy an idiot? He doesn't understand the significance?" Zenitsu thought, looking at Inosuke like he was a fool.
Even though he was usually cowardly, Zenitsu understood the importance of respecting the dead.
Ryuji watched Inosuke silently, saying nothing.
"I understand. You can't help because you're injured."
"It's okay. If you're hurt, rest. Ryuji-senpai, Zenitsu, and I can handle this," Tanjiro said, finding a reason for Inosuke's refusal.
Only someone as kind as Tanjiro could be so understanding. Others wouldn't bother with Inosuke's eccentric behavior.
Ryuji was an example of this. Being more "normal," he couldn't treat Inosuke the same way Tanjiro did.
Tanjiro's words struck Inosuke, implying he was a weakling who couldn't do anything because of a minor injury.
Inosuke, with his immense pride and competitiveness, roared, "What?! You dare underestimate me?! It's just burying people! I'll bury more than anyone, a hundred, two hundred!"
Ryuji tossed his shovel in front of Inosuke. "Then let's have a contest, you and Tanjiro! See who buries more, faster!"
Zenitsu slyly understood Ryuji's true intention: to make Inosuke do the work for free.
He didn't expose Ryuji, only marveling at his clever scheme.
