Chapter 63: The Holiday is Coming to an End
"It's alright, it's alright. These two tasks, at first glance, seem very outrageous, but in reality, when it comes to actually carrying them out..."
Dylan paused.
Although they were still quite outrageous.
But it wasn't entirely impossible to complete them.
For example, the first refinement task was just using the Killing Curse forty-four times on the same target.
Simple enough.
And the second one, the refinement task for the Transfiguration Charm, was just using the Transfiguration Charm once on Professor McGonagall.
"The next time I discuss Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, I can completely use the excuse of wanting to practice combat to exchange Transfiguration Charms with her. That way, it won't be too abrupt even if I use the Transfiguration Charm on Professor McGonagall."
Dylan sighed softly.
These two tasks were neither too difficult nor too easy.
It all depended on how he maneuvered them.
"The refinement trait for the Killing Curse—Slaughterous Intent to Burn the Heavens—I can't tell what kind of ability it is just from the name."
"But the refinement trait for the Transfiguration Charm—Instantaneous Transformation Without Delay—seems relatively easy to understand. It should be the ability to instantly cast the spell during transformation and make the transformation process smoother, right?"
This trait was quite worthwhile for the Galleons spent.
After all, if a wizard wanted to make a spell's power or effect stronger, they usually had to research and ponder it themselves.
However, now, he only needed to spend a small amount of money and complete some friendly tasks to make the spell develop new trait effects.
This was an ability that countless wizards would be willing to go to the ends of the earth for, but couldn't obtain.
Dylan thought about it and then hypnotized himself, feeling relieved.
Of course, with these two refinement tasks already in place, Dylan didn't want to try refining other spells anymore.
It wasn't because he thought the refinement costs were too high and the tasks were too bizarre.
He wasn't a stingy person.
It was just that, no matter what, his Galleons had other uses.
For example, allowing him to buy many very expensive but necessary potion ingredients and other various materials.
Dylan couldn't just throw all of his ninety thousand plus Galleons into refining spells just to give a spell one more trait.
Heaven knew how hard he had worked to save up for so long, only to have less than a hundred thousand Galleons!
He had forced his parents to quit their jobs, and to prevent the old couple from slacking off in earning money, he wrote letters day and night to supervise them!
At the same time, he also had to give them advice and consider directions for making money. When they encountered certain unsolvable problems, they would also write letters to ask for his opinion, and he certainly couldn't stand idly by.
After all, a considerable portion of the money his parents earned would end up in his pocket.
So, he also had to help his parents solve some of the difficulties and problems they encountered.
"Sigh, my life is really hard," Dylan sighed.
Just then, the dormitory door opened, and Ron walked in.
After exchanging a greeting with him, Dylan stopped dwelling on the two refinement tasks.
He took out a piece of parchment and began to think about how to help his parents, using the capital they had, to double their existing funds again.
By the time he finished writing the letter, it was very late, and Harry had also returned to the dormitory, chatting with Ron.
Dylan planned to have Luna mail the letter tomorrow. Then he simply brushed his teeth and cast a Scourgify on himself.
Dylan hugged Coal Ball and fell into a deep sleep.
This time, he didn't transform his wizard robes into pajamas.
One enchantment cost a hundred Galleons. It didn't seem like much, but after transforming them ten times, it would be a thousand.
Little by little, by transforming his robes into pajamas a few fewer times, he could unlock one more refinement task.
No matter how outrageous the task was, it also meant that the advanced spells he had mastered had the potential to gain new magical traits!
The next day, after mailing the letter, Dylan began to learn the counter-curses for dark magic from Professor Flitwick as usual.
Time passed little by little.
The Christmas holidays were also coming to an end.
Seamus and Neville had returned to school.
Hermione, on the other hand, only returned on the last day of the Christmas holidays.
Dylan was sitting at the long table in the Great Hall, hugging a Forbidden Forest Gloomfire Durian almost as big as his head and gnawing on it.
This wasn't food from the Great Hall, but something Hagrid had given him two days ago. It had finally fully ripened today, so he brought it to the Great Hall to eat.
This durian didn't have the imagined stench; instead, it was very fragrant and sweet.
The flesh was a deep purplish-black, with gloomfire patterns that looked like slowly crawling lava flowing on the surface, all encased in a translucent, glowing membrane.
Because this durian seemed very difficult to ripen, Hagrid had only given him one.
Dylan was just trying something new.
After Hermione walked over, she greeted him excitedly.
"Wow, what are you eating? It looks a bit scary."
"A durian, Hagrid gave it to me."
Hermione blinked and didn't pay much attention. Instead, she sat down next to Dylan.
"Your Christmas gift was very creative, the magic-changing scarf. After I arrived at school, I found that it can change color according to the seasons and room temperature in Hogwarts Castle. My goodness, did you knit this yourself? I love it so much!"
Dylan smiled, "I knitted it with magic. I'm glad you like it. I was worried you'd find a scarf boring."
"Not at all!"
Hearing Hermione's words, Harry and Ron exchanged a glance and then both looked at Dylan, a hint of resentment in their eyes.
"Hey, Dylan, how could you only give Hermione such a scarf? I wanted one too, but you only gave me a quill!"
Ron frowned, "And some sweets!"
Dylan tilted his head, "It seems you haven't used that quill to write yet, have you?"
Ron was stunned, "What do you mean? Does that quill have other uses?"
Dylan pursed his lips, "That's a smart quill, or rather, it was originally a blank magic quill."
"I injected my own written magic program into it, allowing it to intelligently and automatically correct your spelling and grammar mistakes. I hope it can make writing potion recipes less difficult for you and make it smoother."
Hearing this, Ron's eyes widened, and excitement burst forth in his expression, "Oh! It can actually do that? I misunderstood you!"
Dylan glanced at him expressionlessly, "It's alright, I'm used to it."
Ron scratched his head embarrassedly.
Dylan glanced at Harry, who looked like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
"That necklace of yours, I put an invisible shield on it. If you encounter any danger, it can protect you once."
Harry also scratched his head.
Hermione then placed her bag on her lap and spoke mysteriously.
"Do you guys know?"
