On Fishman Island, a massive double-layered semi-circular bubble shield encloses the island, with an air layer separating the two barriers. If ships coated at the Sabaody Archipelago stray from the designated path and enter Fishman Island incorrectly, the coating will automatically detach and merge with the island's external membrane. Some vessels then fall into the air gap between the two shields. Even if they succeed in breaching the shield, incoming ships are often swept away by the rushing seawater. At the island's front entrance is an "air reservoir" that can generate enormous air bubbles, capable of enveloping the island's atmosphere, but unless there's an emergency, the air reserve isn't used lightly.
Despite being located 10,000 meters under the sea, Fishman Island enjoys sunlight and skies. This is due to the giant tree, Eve of the Sunlight (Yarukiman Mangrove's root system), known locally as the "Sunlight Tree Eve," which transmits sunlight from the surface down to the ocean floor. This phenomenon brings both day and night to the ocean depths, and the island's residents revere it as "the sun's blessing."
In addition, since much of Fishman Island lies underwater, people who can't swim must either apply personal air bubbles to themselves or use transportation covered in coated bubbles to move safely in the water.
"Captain, we're almost there." Casa knocked on Rin's room and spoke from outside the door.
"Okay, I hear you." Rin opened the door and gathered himself. He then walked to the ship's deck to join his crew.
The ship inched closer to Fishman Island as the scenery became more vibrant. Gradually, the ship's membrane fused with the external shield of the island, allowing them to enter. Fishman Island's iconic features its luminous dome, coral streets, and floating architecture came into view. Rin could even see the Gyoncorde Plaza from the port, the very place where Queen Otohime would be assassinated according to his memories from his previous life, specifically in Chapter 626 of the manga.
In anticipation of Rin Pandora's arrival one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea Queen Otohime and King Neptune had come to greet them in person.
Rin stood on the deck and surveyed the beauty of Fishman Island below. It was well-structured, vibrant with life, and yet, danger loomed near. After docking, Rin and his crew wore bubble helmets to breathe and disembarked.
"Welcome, I am Neptune, king of Fishman Island," the tall, bearded merman said warmly, stepping forward with Otohime by his side.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Rin Pandora, captain of the Pandora Pirates. Just call me Rin." Rin returned the greeting. Since he planned to stay on the island for a few days, he made sure to maintain a respectful tone things would be easier that way.
"Please, let's continue this at Ryugu Palace," Otohime said, her left hand still wrapped in a bandage from a recent injury. Given the crowded nature of the port, lingering there would only draw attention.
"Sure." Rin nodded and followed Neptune and Otohime toward the castle.
Ryugu Palace
Ryugu Palace, situated in the uppermost area of Fishman Island where the "sunlight" reached strongest, stood tall and regal. It was built from massive corals and shells, ringed with coiled dragon decorations. The royal transport giant flying fish with floating bubbles was on standby to escort the guests.
"I'm curious what brings Lord Rin to Fishman Island?" Neptune asked as they walked through the opulent halls.
"We're heading to the New World after this," Rin answered without hesitation. There was no need to hide it; as a pirate, sailing into the New World wasn't unusual.
"Oh, the New World… It's filled with danger. Sea Kings prowl the waters, and the Four Emperors rule vast territories. Many ships never return," Otohime said with concern. Though she had never been there, she'd heard the grim stories shared by pirates who passed through.
"Otohime-sama, since I've been named one of the Seven Warlords, that means I have the strength to travel even into the New World. You needn't worry," Rin said with a calm confidence. His eyes sparkled with determination he wasn't boasting; he had the power to back it up.
"Hahaha, truly a hero among the young. I admire your strength, Lord Rin," Neptune said with a hearty laugh. He was beginning to entertain an idea in his mind.
"By the way, Otohime-sama," Rin said, suddenly changing the subject. "How's your petition drive going?"
"Oh? Lord Rin knows of that as well? Well, there are still some stubborn residents who refuse to sign, but I plan to offer incentives during the next collection to win their favor," Otohime answered, her voice full of hope and resolve. She had no idea that this hopeful event was fated to end in tragedy. Her relentless push to forge peace between humans and fish-men made her a target.
"But I've received word someone plans to assassinate you during the upcoming signature event," Rin said firmly, eyes serious.
"What! Who dares such insolence?!" Neptune roared before Otohime could respond. His protective instincts flared Otohime was his queen. The very thought of her in danger sent his blood boiling.
"Someone wants to kill me?" Otohime's brow furrowed deeply. She had long known that enemies lurked among her own kind those who opposed peace with humans. Ever since Fisher Tiger's death, her opposition had grown more aggressive.
"I don't know the identity yet," Rin admitted. "But I suggest you avoid the event. If you stay away that day, the assassination might be avoided."
"Yes, Otohime, I agree with Lord Rin," Neptune said, his tone pleading. "If something happens to you, think of our children think of Shirahoshi."
"I'll consider it and let you know my decision," Otohime replied, though her brows remained knit in worry. She couldn't ignore the danger, but her commitment to peace was equally strong.
