The next day, Jiraiya had arranged to meet with Karin at the Third Training Field.

Naruto decided to accompany her, but stayed on the sidelines, training on his own.

It was time to master the Rasengan variants!

Karin was sitting on a blanket, legs crossed and frowning, silently studying the scrolls Jiraiya had given her. She carefully traced the seals with a fine brush, repeating the same symbols over and over again.

From a nearby tree, Jiraiya glanced toward Naruto, curious.

Naruto was surrounded by clones watching him as a sphere of Chakra spun erratically between his palms.

The Rasengan.

Jiraiya squinted, and when he realized what Naruto was trying to do, he smiled, amused.

"If I were you, I'd give up, brat! It's impossible!" Jiraiya exclaimed, arms crossed.

Naruto looked at him for a second, without losing focus. His brow was slightly furrowed and a drop of sweat slid down his temple.

Jiraiya shook his head, amused.

"Your father, Minato, created the Rasengan based on the Bijūdama, the Tailed Beast Ball. It's an incomplete technique. His intention was to combine it with chakra nature, but he didn't have time to achieve it. Only he could have completed it."

He said it with pride, but also with resignation. Jiraiya himself had tried and failed, until he eventually gave up on the idea altogether.

Naruto rolled his eyes.

Was he really that proud of his former student that he thought no one else could manage it?

"Since he couldn't complete it in life, it's my duty as his son to do it for him," said Naruto.

Naruto wanted to tell Jiraiya right then that Minato was alive.

But it wasn't the right moment to reveal the truth.

Minato would reveal himself when the time was right... maybe after Hiruzen's death.

Either way, Tsunade would have to become the Fifth Hokage first. Whether she liked it or not.

Minato had already told him with absolute certainty that he didn't want to take the position again. Not after everything that had happened. He just wanted to live in peace with his family. And Naruto... Naruto was pretty sure that once his mother came back to life, it wouldn't be long before he had a little brother.

After all, his parents were still young.

"Fine, if you want to waste your time, go ahead..." Jiraiya muttered, shrugging before turning his attention back to his new student.

Jiraiya watched Karin, who was still copying seals precisely. She was learning fast, more than Jiraiya expected from someone just starting in Fūinjutsu.

"As expected from an Uzumaki..." he thought carefully.

Maybe, if she kept this up, even Jiraiya wouldn't be able to help himself and would end up teaching her everything he knew.

Maybe he could teach her the Summoning Technique, and one day, even take her to Mount Myōboku.

"Only when you master this technique will I be able to start teaching you for real, Karin-chan," he said with a smile, pointing at the scroll in Karin's hands.

Karin nodded without looking at him, completely focused on the scroll.

Jiraiya watched her closely. Her eyes were shining. Karin had focus, talent... and character. He came to a rather inappropriate conclusion:

"You'll be an excellent woman in the future! 10 out of 10! NO! 100 out of 100!"

He didn't realize he'd said it out loud.

"DAMN PERVERTED SAGE! ROT IN HELL!" Karin shouted, suddenly standing and slamming her fist into his face.

Jiraiya flew through the air like a ragdoll, nose bleeding and with a stupid expression, blushing from the mental image he had just had of adult Karin.

From the side, Naruto barely turned his head to watch Jiraiya flying between the trees and smiled with amusement.

"I'm glad I came..."

Naruto knew something like this would happen sooner or later.

...

"Ow~! Ow~! Ow~! It hurts so much!" Jiraiya whined, writhing on the ground with both hands on his face. "That brat hits way too hard!"

Leaning against the trunk of a tree in the middle of the forest, the perverted sage lamented his fate while rubbing the spot where Karin had mercilessly hit him.

Like a good Uzumaki, the girl had tremendous physical strength for her age, something Jiraiya knew very well… though he'd rather not remember it.

Involuntarily, his memory took him back to the days when Kushina used to beat him up without mercy for his "misunderstandings" with the village women.

And now, his new student... Karin.

The memory was fresh: her hair had bristled as if it had a will of its own, her face had darkened, and her eyes shone with the same fury as Kushina before landing one of her terrifying punches.

"WHY THE HELL DOES MY NEW STUDENT HAVE TO BE SO MUCH LIKE THAT DEMON MINATO MARRIED?!" he yelled at the sky, trembling.

A chill ran down his spine, as if Kushina herself were stalking him from beyond the grave.

At that moment, a small toad about thirty centimeters tall appeared out of nowhere and landed on his head.

It was green, with a white beard, huge eyebrows, and an elegant cloak that gave him a wise air.

It was Fukasaku.

"We need to talk, Jiraiya-chan," said the old toad, jumping from his head to land in front of him.

"Eh? What are you doing here, boss?" Jiraiya asked, confused.

Fukasaku remained silent for a few seconds, then let out a deep sigh.

"The Great Toad Sage's prophecy... has changed, Jiraiya-chan."

Jiraiya's eyes widened in surprise.

"What do you mean it's changed? Wasn't my destiny to train the child of the prophecy? The one who would bring peace... or destruction to the ninja world?"

The idea that a destiny could change so suddenly seemed absurd to him.

Fukasaku looked down at the ground, equally puzzled.

"The Great Toad Sage said the child of the prophecy no longer needs a master. The prophecy still stands… it's just that you're no longer his guide."

"THEN WHAT THE HELL WERE ALL THESE YEARS FOR?!" Jiraiya exclaimed. "All my effort… my travels… my research?! For this?!"

"It's not in vain, Jiraiya-chan. Even though you're no longer his master, the child of the prophecy is close to you. You can still influence his path. That's still your mission: to make sure he chooses peace... and not destruction."

"Does that mean...?"

"Yes. Your destiny has changed, but not completely. Being his master isn't what's important… but being his guide, even from the shadows if necessary."

Jiraiya let out a long sigh. Then, groaning, he got up off the ground and brushed off his knees.

"All right, boss…"

He looked up at the sky, annoyed. If only that stupid prophecy didn't exist…

Maybe he could devote himself to what he truly loved…

CHASING BEAUTIFUL GIRLS!

...

A few hours later.

"Engraving Finger Seal!"

Chakra concentrated in Karin's fingers. For the first time, the technique Jiraiya had been teaching her materialized correctly.

The Engraving Finger Seal allowed the user to write on any surface by concentrating heat in the fingertips. Even steel could be engraved with this technique.

Jiraiya watched in silence, a mix of surprise and pride. Only a few hours had passed since they started training.

Although the change in the prophecy had taken away his enthusiasm for having a student, he had decided to continue with Karin. Maybe because he needed to. Or maybe because the girl reminded him too much of Kushina.

Every time he looked at Naruto and Karin, he felt like he owed them something.

Maybe he felt guilty for not being there for Naruto after his parents died.

Jiraiya scratched the back of his head, unsure why he was really doing it.

"You have monstrous talent for fūinjutsu. Has anyone ever told you that, Karin-chan?"

Karin shook her head but smiled at the compliment.

"So, what are you going to teach me now, Perverted Sage?!" Karin asked, excitement sparkling in her eyes.

She had never felt so excited just to train.

"I want to teach you the Contract Seal. This technique was also created by Naruto's father, just like the Rasengan."

Karin's eyes widened in surprise and she glanced sideways at Naruto, who was still training intensely in the distance.

"What is this technique about, Jiraiya-sensei?" she asked with sudden seriousness.

Jiraiya was moved to hear her use "sensei" for the first time, and not Perverted Sage, as she had been calling him.

"The Contract Seal allows you to touch your target and place the seal on them, causing them to lose control over the summoned beast. The summoning is forced to return to its place of origin."

Karin's enthusiasm immediately faded. She lowered her gaze, though she tried to hide her disappointment.

Jiraiya sighed. Clearly, he had noticed Karin's disappointment.

"Maybe before I teach you this, I should show you another technique. That way you'll understand how powerful the Contract Seal can be."

Karin nodded firmly, regaining some of her motivation.

"I'll show you the Summoning Technique! Thanks to this technique, I earned the nickname Toad Sage!"

Without another word, Jiraiya bit his finger, made a quick sequence of seals, and slammed the ground with an open palm.

A great cloud of smoke exploded around him. When it cleared, Jiraiya was standing on top of a giant orange toad with a serious expression.

Karin watched the scene, mouth slightly open.

"It's like when Naruto summoned Gamakichi during his fight against Kiba!" she exclaimed, a mix of surprise and excitement.

Jiraiya smiled at her reaction. If there was one thing he knew how to do well, it was ignite the spark in his students.

Meanwhile, several meters away, Naruto was still training.

Hundreds of shadow clones surrounded him. Each held a Rasengan, all of them trying to perfect the same technique: the Rasen-Shuriken.

The original Naruto, however, was working on something different.

"RASENGAN!!"

He threw the Rasengan at a nearby tree. Midway, the chakra sphere vanished.

Naruto smiled. A second later, the tree exploded into thousands of splinters.

He had done it. He had finally created the Vanishing Rasengan.

Unlike Boruto's Vanishing Rasengan, his future son's, his wasn't compact or small.

Naruto hadn't just recreated it. He had mastered it.

Without stopping, he began working on another technique: the Ōdama Rasengan, the Giant Rasengan.

He wanted to master it as soon as possible.

After all, he dreamed of crushing Danzō with a Rasengan the size of all of Konoha.
