This wasn't just about the Green Goblin, and Shen He wasn't particularly worried that Chaldea's involvement would be exposed.
Because the real chaos was about to arrive — the alien broadcast had already begun, and Attilan's frequencies had been intercepted by the Inhuman factions. Soon, Earth would be the center of attention again.
It was as if the Green Goblin sensed that Shen He didn't care in the slightest about his survival. The notorious devil began to panic, a hint of desperation cracking his twisted grin.
"I… I can give you the entire Oscorp!" the Green Goblin blurted out, his voice trembling. "Oscorp's biotech division leads the world. With it, you could control the medical industry overnight! Its patents on gene therapy, neural recalibration, and bio-enhancement… it's your golden ticket. Just spare me."
It was indeed an enticing offer. Even Shen He had to admit it — in a country like the United States, money made many things possible. Control over Oscorp meant influence, resources, and rapid expansion.
But Shen He wasn't naïve.
This wasn't a web novel. You didn't gain full control over a multibillion-dollar publicly traded company just by signing a black-and-white document. Real-life acquisitions involved tangled processes — share restructuring, board approvals, government scrutiny, especially with two listed entities. If Oscorp's asset transfer looked suspicious, it would invite not just SEC audits, but FBI and SHIELD investigations. And if Norman were to fake his death and hand off his shares to a hidden heir or offshore trust, they'd just be playing a shell game.
No. Shen He didn't need the shell — he wanted the soul.
"You're nothing more than Norman Osborne's festering madness… a living tumor of resentment and greed," Shen He said calmly, eyes like mirrors of still water.
He glanced at Dr. Curt Connors, shivering near the lab's edge. The man looked pale, overwhelmed — clearly never prepared for this world of supernatural justice. Shen He sighed softly.
"Shi," Shen He called.
The Ryougi Shiki standing silently nearby, both of them, responded without hesitation.
"Kill him."
"No—! You can't—"
The Green Goblin lunged, but Jeanne d'Arc's armored boot crushed him back into the floor. Cracks spiderwebbed beneath the pressure.
"It will be over soon. No pain," Jeanne murmured, her tone almost maternal. That only made the Goblin's thrashing worse.
Suddenly, with a mechanical click, two miniature turrets popped from behind Norman's wheelchair — a last-ditch surprise attack. Pumpkin bombs armed with oscillating pulses. But—
A flash of steel.
The sound was crystalline — a blade singing through the air.
Before the bombs could launch, the entire wheelchair exploded into metal confetti. The twin Ryougi Shikis stood over it, long blades drawn.
"Move your foot, Jeanne," one of the Ryougis said, twirling her sword. "This angle will be cleaner."
Several researchers yelped and looked away. Even hardened SHIELD agents flinched. Connors was on the verge of a breakdown. Was this how billionaires treated each other? Executing one another in broad daylight like gods punishing mortals?
The Goblin thrashed harder. The inhuman power surging through Norman's body cracked the reinforced floor.
But none of that mattered.
Pchhk—
Steel pierced flesh.
There was no scream. Just a sudden, hollow gasp.
The Ryougi Shikis' blades retracted in perfect synchrony. Yet, strangely, there was no blood. No torn flesh. No torn clothing.
Instead — the green hue faded from Norman's skin like mist dissipating under sunlight. The monstrous transformation unraveled as if time had been reversed. His pale, ravaged body flushed with vitality. Wrinkles faded. Bones straightened. He looked… decades younger.
Jeanne lifted her boot.
Norman Osborne collapsed to the floor, wide-eyed, staring at his hands in disbelief.
"How…? How can this be…?"
Ever since his degenerative gene disorder surfaced, he hadn't felt inner peace. Not once. Not even in sleep.
A nearby female researcher rushed over, scanning Norman with a portable analyzer.
"No puncture wounds… not even torn fabric! Cellular activity is—skyrocketing! Mr. Osborne, may I take a blood sample? This is insane! There's no chemical enhancement — no serum traces! It's like your amygdala rewired itself to deactivate the Goblin matrix, with visible rejuvenation across epithelium and dermal layers—!"
"Simmons. Step back," Dr. Helen Cho said sharply, pulling her back.
Shen He glanced over.
Simmons. A SHIELD asset. One of the rising stars from the Coulson files. Noted.
"As you can see, Mr. Osborne," Shen He said, walking over, "the Goblin is dead."
He knelt, hoisting Norman with one hand. The man stumbled but managed to stay on his feet.
"My… my son…"
Norman's voice cracked. Through everything, his thoughts returned to Harry.
Even consumed by the Goblin virus, he'd fought to save his son from the same fate.
"He's still young," Shen He replied calmly. "His condition isn't as deep. But we can't guarantee we can purge it without risking… collateral. We'll need to monitor him. Quietly. Publicly, just say you were cured here. Nothing more."
Norman didn't respond immediately. His mind raced.
He understood perfectly.
This wasn't just treatment. This was insurance.
A cure with conditions. Surveillance as assurance. But compared to death — it was life, hope, a second chance.
And maybe… a reset for the Osborne legacy.
"I understand." Norman adjusted his collar, slipping easily back into CEO mode. "Dr. Cho's work is groundbreaking. Oscorp is honored to collaborate with Virtual Arc — this partnership could revolutionize humanity's future."
"Mm. Discuss that with Tony. I don't do business," Shen He said, slapping Norman's shoulder with a half-smile. "And feel free to tour the lab. Helen, give our guests the presentation. I've got other places to be."
With that, Shen He turned on his heel, walking out alongside Jeanne and the twin Shikis. He didn't even wait for a goodbye.
It was as if they had arrived solely to execute a specter — and nothing more.
But Norman stared after him, realization dawning.
No… he didn't come for me.
I went to him.
I brought the Goblin to his door… and he solved it like it was nothing.
"Mr. Osborne?" Dr. Cho's voice gently broke through.
Norman blinked. Then smiled as if none of it had ever happened.
"Yes. Dr. Zhao, please continue. Curt—" He gestured toward Connors, who was still huddled under a lab table. "Come out, old friend. You should hear what Dr. Cho has to say…"
—
Far from the lab, Shen He walked with Jeanne and the Ryougis into the night air, the moonlight casting long shadows behind them.
He was smiling.
That had gone better than expected.
In a single night, they'd removed the Goblin, avoided global headlines, and quietly integrated Oscorp's biotech assets into Chaldea's shadow network.
A neat little package.
One devil down. Many more to go.
