Chapter 102
The bear let out a roar that shook the cavern walls. It sounded like someone had mashed together a lion's growl and a war horn designed by a particularly dramatic doom cult. I felt it reverberating through my bones.
All around it, the smaller creatures, weasels, ferrets, lizards, things that looked like rejected petting zoo applicants, all twisted by the same fungal curse, picked up the humming. The low, discordant chorus became a chilling soundtrack, synced with the pulsing of the mushrooms on the bear.
The bear charged.
I rolled away just in time, its claws gouging the stone floor where I'd been a second ago. The cave trembled. My knee slammed into a rock. Moodrender thrummed at my side, excited and ready. It hummed something suspiciously close to a heroic battle anthem, eager to join the fray.
I sighed, "I don't suppose you could keep it down a little?"
Moodrender took that as a cue to get louder.
