The morning sun had barely risen when Walter entered the grand hallway leading to the dining room. As he passed through, he caught the faint sound of whispers—a cluster of maids murmuring to each other in hushed voices, their backs turned.
His eyes narrowed. He stepped forward, his presence commanding, and approached them.
"What are you talking about?" Walter asked coldly.
The maids instantly froze, their faces turning pale as they spun around to face him. "Y-Young Lord, we were just—"
But before the maid could finish, Walter grabbed one of them gently but firmly by the wrist and guided her into an empty side room. Once inside, he let go and sat down on the sofa, crossing one leg over the other with an expectant look.
"Now," he said, voice low and dangerous, "tell me what's going on."
The maid hesitated, then took off her glasses with a sigh. "Young Lord… It's about Lord William."
