The sky at night went on forever overhead, stars glinting like diamonds scattered everywhere. The garden was still, silvered in moonlight. At the center of it, Jonathan and Walter sat side by side within the white gazebo, the gentle night breeze blowing past.
Jonathan leaned back, his eyes drifting up to the stars above. His face was soft, dreamy.
Walter, though, was not staring up at the stars. He was staring at Jonathan, a soft smile curling his lips. "Jonathan," he whispered, "do you love me?"
Jonathan shifted on his side, his eyes locking into Walter's. For an instant, his thoughts reverberated with Walter's previous words—I'm your lover. The recollection caused his heart to stutter. A blush rose up his cheeks.
"I… I love you, Walter," he barely breathed.
