Clearly the chief was already growing tired of the detective and his shenanigans.
All along, he had allowed the detective play his own games and do things his way but at the moment, he had a witness inside.
"Chief please, just hear me out. Let's talk about this again. I have a suggestion, could you close the door?" Detective Kelly asked him. "I have a suspect."
The door slammed shut behind him with an echo that seemed louder than it should have been.
Chief Hanks was still glaring, the veins around his temple pulsing, but Kelly did not blink. Not this time.
"You said you have a suspect," The chief growled. "Then tell me. Who?"
Kelly hesitated. Saying it aloud made it real. Made it dangerous.
"Julio's companion," He said finally. "The redhead. I think I know who she is amd she's aligned with this Julio guy."
Chief Hanks exhaled, as if trying to push away the absurdity with breath alone.
