I tasted success in the air as my wolves tore through the forest. Shadow things flanked us, their bodies like live smoke twisting between trees. The Queen had promised me power beyond imagination when this was done. When the Ruby Wolf fell.
"Push forward!" I yelled, my voice carrying over the sounds of fighting. "The Alpha has abandoned you all for that witch!"
My followers howled in answer, their eyes glowing with hate. So easy to handle. So ready to believe Kieran had betrayed them.
Blood spattered my face as one of Caius's vampires burst into dust before me. Their kind were strong but not invincible. Nothing was invincible.
Not even a Ruby Wolf.
I changed forms, bones cracking as my body transformed into the massive gray wolf that had earned me the post of Beta. My claws dug into the ground as I charged toward the stone circle where Sienna had fled.
