Zeke's POV
I woke up to pain. Not the sharp kind that makes you scream, but the deep, burning kind that lives in your bones. The kind that tells you something is very wrong.
Sunlight streamed through a cracked window. I was on a rough couch in a cabin I didn't recognize. The smell of trees and wolf hit me at once.
"He's awake," said a deep voice.
I tried to sit up, but my body failed me. Black lines crawled across my chest like spider webs. I'd seen these marks before, on the Queen's other trials. None of them had survived.
A woman with flame-red hair rushed to my side. Sienna. My twin. My sister. The one they'd told me was a monster.
"Easy," she said, putting a cool cloth to my face. Her touch sent a jolt through me – our shared blood recognizing itself.
"Where am I?" My voice sounded like I'd swallowed gravel.
