Chapter 10 - The Abyssal Knight and Primordial runes

Rian stood before Scathach, his heart pounding with anticipation and a hint of fear. He knew that his final challenge would be the most daunting one yet, and he was both excited and terrified to face it.

"This is your final test, Rian," Scathach said, her voice firm and serious. "You will face an Abyssal Knight, a creature of darkness and shadow, and it will not go easy on you."

Rian nodded, his grip on the Gaé Bólg tightening. He knew that he had come a long way since his training began, but he also knew that he still had much to learn.

The Abyssal Knight emerged from the shadows, its presence radiating an aura of malevolence. Rian could feel its power coursing through the air, and he knew that this would be a battle unlike any other.

The battle began, and Rian charged forward with a fierce determination. The Gaé Bólg shone brightly in his hand, and he unleashed powerful strikes and bolts of black lightning. Kael, however, was a formidable foe, and it countered every attack with ease.

Rian dodged and weaved staying nimble yet fluid, avoiding Kael's deadly blows, but he knew that he couldn't keep this up for much longer. Kael's strength and agility were too much for him, and he began to tire.

Just when it seemed like all was lost, Rian remembered Scathach's words: "A true warrior doesn't rely solely on brute force. He uses strategy and cunning to outmaneuver his foes."

Rian gritted his teeth and focused his mind. He analyzed Kael's movements, looking for a pattern or weakness. And then, he saw it - a slight hesitation in Kael's step, a momentary lapse in its defense.

Rian seized the opportunity, striking with all his might. The Gaé Bólg bit deep into Kael's armor, and the Abyssal Knight stumbled backward. Rian pressed his advantage, unleashing a flurry of strikes that pushed Kael to its limits.

In a final, desperate bid to turn the tide, Kael unleashed a devastating blow that sent Rian flying across the battlefield. Rian landed hard, his vision blurring, and Kael raised its sword for the killing blow.

But Rian refused to give up. With a surge of adrenaline, he forced himself to his feet, the Gaé Bólg still clutched in his hand. He charged forward, determination burning in his heart.

The two clashed in a final, brutal exchange. Rian's Gaé Bólg met Kael's sword, and the outcome hung in the balance. For a moment, it seemed like time itself had frozen.

And then, Kael's sword shattered, its fragments scattering across the ground. Rian stood victorious, his chest heaving with exhaustion. Kael lay at his feet, defeated.

Scathach approached Rian, a proud smile on her face. "Well done, Rian," she said. "You have proven yourself to be a true warrior. Now, it is time for the bestowing of the primordial runes."

Rian nodded, his wounds throbbing in pain. Scathach led him to a sacred site, where ancient runes glowed with an otherworldly energy. She took a small dagger and cut her palm, letting her blood flow onto the runes.

As her blood touched the runes, they began to glow with an intense, pulsing light. Scathach reached out and placed her hand on Rian's forehead, and he felt a surge of energy and knowledge flood through him.

The primordial runes, ancient symbols of power and wisdom, flowed into Rian's mind, imbuing him with their secrets. Rian felt his consciousness expanding, his understanding of the universe deepening.

When Scathach removed her hand, Rian felt changed, transformed. He knew that he had been given a great gift, one that would aid him on his journey and help him unlock his true potential.

Scathach smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "You are now ready, Rian. You have the power of the primordial runes within you. Go forth, and may your path be guided by wisdom and strength."

Rian nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude and respect towards Scathach. He knew that he would never forget her, and that he would always carry her teachings with him.

With a final glance at Scathach, Rian turned and walked away

As Rian prepared to leave, Scathach's expression turned serious. "Rian, there's something I need to tell you," she said, her voice low and gentle. "Something about your lineage."

Rian's curiosity was piqued, and he turned to face Scathach. "What is it?" he asked, his eyes locked on hers.

Scathach took a deep breath before speaking. "Rian, your father was a Dragon King of Lightning," she said, her words hanging in the air like a challenge. "He was a powerful being, ruler of the skies and master of the elements."

Rian's mind reeled as he processed this information. A Dragon King? He had always known he was different, but he had never imagined this.

Scathach continued, her voice filled with a mix of sadness and pride. "Your father was a great warrior and a just ruler. He was also a fierce protector of his people and his territory."

Rian's eyes widened as he realized the implications. "And my mother?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Scathach's expression softened, and she reached out to touch Rian's face. "You are looking at your mother, Rian," she said, her voice filled with love. "I am your mother, and I am proud to call you my son."

Rian's world spun around him as he struggled to comprehend the truth. Scathach, his mother? He had so many questions, but they seemed to get stuck in his throat.

Scathach smiled, seeming to understand Rian's turmoil. "I know this is a lot to take in, Rian," she said. "But I want you to know that you are always welcome here. The Shadow Lands are your home, too. You have a place here, and you will always be protected and loved."

Rian felt a sense of belonging he had never known before. He looked at Scathach, and for the first time, he saw her not just as a teacher or a warrior, but as his mother.

"Thank you, Mother," Rian said, his voice filled with emotion. "I'll never forget this."

Scathach's eyes shone with tears as she pulled Rian into a warm embrace. "I'll always be here for you, Rian," she whispered. "No matter what, you are my son, and I love you."

As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, Rian knew that he had found a new sense of purpose and belonging. He was no longer just a lone warrior; he was a part of something greater, a legacy of power and strength.

With a final glance at Scathach, Rian stepped back and nodded. "I'll return," he said, his voice filled with determination. "And I'll make you proud, Mother."

Scathach smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "I know you will, Rian. You are a true son of the Shadow Lands, and you will always have a home here."

With that Rian again turned and walked away a gate of shadows forming, as he stepped through he turned back knowing he'd be back some day. The gate snapped closed leaving him staring at his room. Time seemed to have slowed as only an hour had passed here, and yet the year's he stayed in the shadow lands have changed him completely.
