Leon stared at Riven as if the words had physically slapped him.
"Lover?" he repeated, blinking hard. "You… You have a lover? As in… A lover?"
Riven tilted his head, as if trying to gauge how many more repetitions Leon would need before it truly sank in. "Yes. Soren is my lover," he replied, calm as the spring breeze ruffling the grass around them.
"But—you're Ronan's mate!" Leon sputtered. "You're bonded to him. The wolf alpha. Everyone knows that!"
Riven shrugged, still lounging in the grass like he hadn't just upended Leon's concept of relationships. "So?"
Leon gaped. "So?! How can you have a lover if you already have a mate?! That doesn't even make sense!"
Riven sat up slowly, brushing a stray petal from his sleeve before meeting Leon's wide eyes with a smirk. "Well, I'm in love with two men," he said simply. "What could I do?"
