"What are you doing?" Melanie demanded sharply with surprise as a man suddenly jumped into the cab she had just hailed. "Look, if you need a ride that badly, you'll have to find another one. I need to—"
Before she could finish, the man cut her off. "Listen to me, Melanie."
She froze, her hand halfway to the door handle. Her frown deepened. How did he know her name? Wasn't this the man who had just almost bitten her head over the little boy? Why was he following her?
But she didn't have time to ask. The man hurriedly pressed on as he spoke with urgency. "I know you're going to the hospital to see Adam, right? I just want to warn you. Be alert. This is a trap by you know who. So keep a close eye on Adam. Don't let anyone near him. Monitor even the doctors and the nurses."
