"...but I know there's fire in you. You'll grow up fierce and full of light. Both of you will." Megan kissed her daughter's cheek, holding her for a moment longer than she should have.
Orion finally rose, stepping quietly over to the bed and sitting beside her.
She handed Callia to him with trembling arms. "Hold them for me," she said softly, her voice just above a breath. "Be everything I know you already are."
Orion didn't say a word. He just nodded, taking the babies into his arms, pressing his cheek gently against Callia's soft hair. He couldn't speak if he tried.
Megan stood, wiping her face quickly. She crossed the room to where their belongings were still half-unpacked. Kneeling, she rummaged through one of the bags until her fingers found the small wooden box tucked between folded linens. She pulled it out and held it for a moment, running her thumb across the carved top.
