Megan didn't answer. She just breathed, her tears finally drying. Then slowly, gently, she sat up from his embrace, wiping her face with the back of her hand and sniffling quietly.
Orion's arms dropped to his sides, the loss of her warmth immediate and bitter. It was like something essential had been pulled from him — the way her head had rested against his shoulder, the way her fingers curled into his shirt… now it was just air. Empty.
He exhaled, fingers twitching. "So… how are you going back?" he asked, voice low as he glanced at her. "Do you just… vanish?" His eyes met hers for a heartbeat before darting away, tracing the rough wooden walls of their new home.
