Chapter 49 - No Escape

Landing silently on the tree branch, Lizarius watched as the owl turned its head, its golden eyes following his invisible form. Can it really see me, even when I'm invisible? he wondered.

He mentally queried the system: What kind of beast is that?

System: Golden Eye Owl, Rank 6, late stage. Possesses a higher bloodline: Demonic Golden Eye. This high-level spiritual eye can fire an invisible attack targeting the soul through eye contact or focused intent. It can also perceive the spiritual essence of things and see through illusions.

Lizarius, still invisible, thought, Higher bloodline, just like that monkey. And it's able to see and attack my soul through making eye contact. But it's only at the late stage of Rank 6, and I've made eye contact with it multiple times already, yet I didn't feel attacked. Maybe it's because my rank is higher.

His yellow eyes glowed as he stared at the owl. If so, I can just kill it. He spread his wings, swung them, and launched himself off the tree, flying towards the owl, his yellow eyes burning. I should try to paralyze it. I haven't tried using the Red Eye Chimpanzee genes yet.

Looking directly into the owl's golden eyes, which were also fixed on him, Lizarius activated the gene. A faint golden light emanated from the owl's eyes.

System: Warning! Host's soul is under attack! Automatically activating Soul Defense. Attack blocked. Host's soul is secured from any form of soul attack.

Lizarius, still flying forward, thought, it was able attack my soul even when my rank is higher.

The owl, seeing Lizarius still approaching, beat its wings and flew away from the tree. Lizarius landed on the branch where the owl had been. Looking at the fleeing owl, and It wasn't paralyzed and even attacked back. But the AI managed to block it, just like before when that human soul tried to take my body. "Lizarius thoughts"

Watching the owl still flying away, he continued his thoughts— trying to run away when it attacked, it didn't work.

Releasing lightning from his horns and body, Lizarius spread his wings and shot into the air, flying towards the owl. As if I'll let my prey escape. With a burst of speed, Lizarius, jaws wide open, suddenly appeared beside the owl.

The owl, caught completely off guard by Lizarius's sudden appearance, couldn't react as Lizarius's jaws clamped down. A loud and painful screech echoed through the forest.
