Chapter 21 - Answers

Hearing the knock on her door, Bonnie took a deep breath and opened it, revealing the faces of three Originals. She was glad to have had the foresight to move out of her father's house so that he wouldn't get caught up in all of this.

"Hello luv, I need your help," said Klaus with a friendly smile.

"And why would I help you?" Bonnie asked in a standoffish manner.

Klaus smirked, "How does that expression go, you scratch my back and I won't scratch out yours?"

"What I think he means is, a favor for a favor," interrupted Kol, trying to keep the peace.

Unimpressed, she went silent.

"Tick tock luv, we don't have all day," said Klaus.

"Klaus, if I may?" said Elijah.

Klaus rolled his eyes, "By all means, be my guest."

Elijah stepped forward. "Our family has been through much, and we are trying to put it back together. I promise that as long as I'm here, nothing will happen to you or those you care for. Please help us."

Bonnie mulled it over, her eyes landing on Kol, who was silently urging her to agree.

"Fine, but if you try anything, I won't stop at a simple nosebleed," she warned, inviting them in.

Klaus grinned, stepping in, "I'd expect nothing less from you."

Moving to the living room.

"What exactly do you want?" Bonnie asked, sitting in a chair opposite them on the couch.

"Rebekah is missing, I'd like her found," said Klaus, not believing she's dead.

"Alright, that's easy. Let me get my stuff," said Bonnie, standing.

Grabbing her maps, she laid them out on the coffee table, kneeling over them, and began to chant. Minutes later, she stopped and said, "I can't find her."

"What do you mean you can't find her? It's a simple locator spell. What kind of witch are you?" Klaus stood angrily over her.

Klaus then found himself forced back into his seat by her magic, "A powerful one."

And as he was about to have another fit, Elijah intervened, "Is there another spell you can use to verify her status?"

"Maybe, I haven't exactly had a teacher, I've had to learn all this stuff the hard way," said Bonnie.

"Then what good are you?" Klaus growled.

"Peace brother, I can help her. I have just the spell," said Kol.

"Then show her already," ordered Klaus impatiently.

Kol bit his tongue, not wishing to antagonize the bastard in front of her.

After showing Bonnie the spell, she performed it and confirmed what they all feared.

"Rebekah is dead."

Elijah's face went blank, Kol frowned, and Klaus raged, flashing towards Bonnie and grabbing her by the arms, "You lie! Tell me you lie; it can't be true."

Bonnie grimaced, "Stop it! You're hurting me."

"Tell me the truth!" Klaus yelled.

"Let me go!" shouted Bonnie, and as Kol was getting ready to help her, she pushed Klaus away with a burst of magical force, sending him crashing against the wall in the main hall, where he sat dejectedly. He couldn't believe that the one sibling who had been by his side the longest was now gone.

"What about mother? Can you tell whether she's alive or not?" asked Elijah, wishing to get to the bottom of things. It's been too quiet without her.

"As long as you remember to keep him away from me," Bonnie snarled.

"My apologies, I hope you can at least understand my lack of action given the circumstances," said Elijah.

Bonnie snorted as she did another spell.

Finishing, she looked towards Kol, "Also dead, I'm sorry."

"It's Finn!" Kol exclaimed in shock, "He did this. It's always been Finn."

Elijah trembled with barely contained fury as he absorbed the information.

The tense silence was broken by her front door flying open.

"Bonnie, are you okay!" shouted Caroline, speeding inside, taking in the unusual scene.

"I'm fine Caroline," said Bonnie, happy to see one of her friends still cared about her.

"What's wrong with him?" asked Caroline, looking at the defeated-looking hybrid.

"He found out his sister died," answered Bonnie.

"What!? How?... Oh, I'm so sorry," said Caroline, rushing over to comfort him, unable to resist the hurt puppy dog look. Hugging his head.

"Caroline," Bonnie warned.

"I know, I know, it's just…" Caroline went on to explain, only to get cut off.

"No, Caroline, Tyler," said Bonnie.

"Tyler?" questioned Caroline, turning her head to find him standing in the doorway staring at her. She whips around to explain, "It's not what it looks like, I can…" only for the words to die in her throat as she spots him alone with Hayley again.

Klaus saved her the trouble, "What are you two doing here? Did I not order you to protect my house?"

"We came to warn you that Finn is there, killing everyone," Answered Hayley as Tyler and Caroline glared at one another.

"Elijah!" Klaus yelled at his vanishing form.

Rising to his feet, Klaus closed the distance between them. "You're telling me while the rest of my hybrids are following my orders to their death, you came here?"

Seeing Tyler in no position to answer with clenched teeth. Hayley quickly responded, "You ordered us to protect your house, and we realized the best way to do that is to come find you."

"I guess that makes you two the smartest of the bunch," said Klaus after a minute of scrutinizing them.

Hayley barely contained her relief as he shifted his focus to Kol, "You should hurry after Elijah."

"And what will you do?" asked Kol.

"To secure the doppelganger, it looks like I'm going to need new hybrids," said Klaus, turning his attention back to Tyler and Hayley, "You two with me," he ordered brushing past Tyler, who continued to stare at Caroline until being nudged by Hayley, indicating they needed to go.

"Ugh! Can you believe that?" said Caroline to Bonnie after they left.

"I mean, he did catch you with Klaus," Bonnie reasoned.

"As if he's any better hanging out alone with Hayley all the time. All I did was comfort a mourning brother, who just lost his sister," argued Caroline.

"The same man who forced him to become a hybrid and follow his orders, which include hanging out alone with Haley," said Bonnie, taking it step by step for her.

Caroline frowned, "Well, when you put it like that, it sounds bad."

Seeing Bonnie give her the 'you think' look made her groan, "I really screwed things up, didn't I?"

"Maybe," said Bonnie.

Feeling like a ghost, Kol cleared his throat, "Ahem, I have one question before I go."

They both flinched, having forgotten about him.

Caroline sneered, "What are you still doing here? Didn't Klaus tell you to leave?"

Ignoring that, Kol asked the burning question that's been eating at him, "Did your lot have any more white oak stakes?"

"Um, No. We told you it was a do-or-die moment, we didn't hold anything back, and if you think we gave any away, you're crazy. We wouldn't trust anybody with that information," said Caroline, catching on quickly for once.

Kol stared at her a few moments before turning to Bonnie, "When I get back, I'll show you how to spell your house against vampires again without having to sell it, and if you could do me a favor, try searching for Finn with all your available resources," he emphasized before leaving.

"What was that about?" asked Caroline.

"Nothing important. Come on, I'll grab us some drinks and we can hang out and talk, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss you," said Bonnie.

Caroline smiled, hugging Bonnie, "I miss you too. It's been terrible without you. Elena's not as fun without you."

Bonnie chuckled, "I can imagine, she can be quite moody."

"Yeah," Caroline laughed. "Hmm, my mom's calling… Hey Mom, what's up?"

"Caroline! Where are you? Are you safe?"

"Whoa, chill, I'm fine, I'm at Bonnie's. What's going on?" asked Caroline.

Observing her friend's pale face grow even paler, Bonnie became concerned. When Caroline finally disconnected, she asked, 'What's wrong? What happened?'

Caroline slowly explained, "Elena's, Salvatore's, and Klaus's houses are on fire. They're putting Elena's out now. Mom said she'd call back to update us and to stay away."

Bonnie's hand shot to her mouth in shock, "I, I'll cast a spell and find out. Wait here."

"Mn," Caroline hummed in a daze.
