Earlier at the Salvatore's house, Elena was searching for Stefan.
"Did you find him?" she asked Alaric, who was walking down the stairs.
He shook his head, "No."
"Nothing over here," yelled Caroline, coming from the basement.
"I'll try calling him again," said Elena, taking out her phone.
"By the way, how many stakes do we have left?" asked Caroline.
"Four," answered Alaric.
"Then we're one short, that sucks," said Caroline.
"Not necessarily," said Alaric, continuing when he received strange looks, "We only really need one for Klaus; all the others can be daggered."
"You're Right! That's brilliant!" exclaimed Caroline enthusiastically.
Alaric grinned.
Elena frowned at her phone.
"Still not picking up?" asked Caroline.
Elena shook her head, "First Damon, then Bonnie, now Stefan, everyone's leaving me," she lamented, full of self-pity.
"Cheer up Elena, everything will work out once Klaus is gone, and we still have four chances left, that's plenty," Caroline consoled.
"Yeah, about that, I only know where two of them are; Stefan hid the other two," said Alaric.
"Oh. Well, I'm sure he will pick up," said Caroline as Elena fell onto the couch with a groan.
When a phone rang, Elena immediately checked hers, only to be disappointed.
"Sorry, that's me. It's Tyler," said Caroline, answering.
"Hey, Ty, what's up?" asked Caroline cheerfully.
"Oh, okay, I'm on it," said Caroline, hanging up.
She looked regretfully at Elena.
"What, what is it? asked Elena.
"I have to go, Bonnie might need me. Tyler says all the Originals are converging on her," said Caroline.
Elena sat up. "Is she okay?"
"I'll let you know as soon as I do, I'm sorry but I have to go," said Caroline.
"No, no, you should go, Bonnie is still our friend, it was just one fight," said Elena, urging her on.
"Will you be okay?" asked Caroline.
"I'll be fine, go, Caroline, keep her safe," said Elena, waving her out.
Caroline gave her one last look and vanished.
"I wonder what they want with her," said Alaric.
"Don't know, we need Stefan," said Elena, making another call.
.
In an unknown house, Stefan could be seen putting a body back together, muttering to himself, "Everything's okay, everything's fine. You're fine, you're fine. Nothing happened, you're perfectly fine," he said, placing the final piece, the head on top, twisting it around until it was in line with the rest of the body on the couch.
Job done, he steps out of the house to answer his ringing phone. "Hey, Elena."
"Stefan! Why haven't you answered? Where are you?" asked Elena rapidly.
"I was following some leads on Damon," said Stefan.
"Oh… Did you find anything?" asked Elena.
"Another dead end I'm afraid," said Stefan.
"Well, we need you back at the house. Some things have been going on, and Alaric has a plan," said Elena.
"I'll be right there," said Stefan, hanging up.
…
Sage frowned, "What are we doing here?" she asked as he pulled up to the Salvatore's.
"The witch tells me there's some white oak ash in here, only she said that the signal was much stronger, as if they could have some pieces of white oak that weren't burned," Finn answered.
"How? We watched them burn," said Sage.
"Must have missed one or two. Doesn't matter, this is all that's left, so once it's gone, that'll be it," said Finn, stepping out.
Sage followed him with a determined look. Then, a thought came to her: "Will I die if I get staked by a white oak?"
Finn paused, "Good question… I don't know. I think that you would survive since it's meant only for us, and it isn't directly harming me, but I don't know. Let's not test that theory, shall we."
"Yeah, okay, I'll be extra careful," said Sage.
They could hear arguing inside as they knocked on the door.
"That's not the point Stefan," Elena yelled as she opened the door and stiffened.
Finn grinned, placing his hand where the invisible barrier keeping out the uninvited should have been, "Hello, I was hoping we could have a word. Is now a bad time?" he asked, wondering if everyone in this town was stupid.
"You, you lied to us, you and your mother didn't do anything," accused Elena.
"My mother did, yes. I, however, have not. Invite me in and let's talk about it," said Finn coolly.
"No thanks, I'm good here, so if you want to talk, talk," said Elena, leaning against the door with her hand on her hip.
Hearing the exchange, Stefan's eyes darted to Alaric, sharing a knowing look, who left to grab a white oak stake.
"Sage!" Stefan exclaimed upon seeing her.
"Great, another Salvatore," said Sage sarcastically.
"Where is my brother? He was last seen with you," asked Stefan moodily, marching over.
"What! You never told me that," said Elena, irked.
"We don't have time for this," said Sage, sweating, already starting to feel the effects of the bite.
Letting out a cough, she pulled Elena out, who let out a surprised yelp as Finn caught her. She then zoomed in, slamming Stefan into the wall by the neck, ready to rip his heart out, when Alaric arrived, firing a wooden bolt at her from behind.
Catching it with her free hand without looking, she turned to glare at the hunter, giving Stefan the chance he needed, piercing her chest with his hand and grabbing her heart, ready to tear it out, he froze.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, that is, if you care at all about this girl," said Finn, holding Elena by the throat.
"Stefan!" cried Elena, struggling against his grip.
Sage coughed painfully, feeling worse than even the werewolf bite could provide. To think she allowed such a thing to happen just because she was a little under the weather.
Eyes spinning, she apologized, "I'm sorry Finn, so sorry."
"It's okay. You're not exactly at your best. It's my fault. I should have taken you home and returned later," Finn said regretfully.
"No…" said Sage as her words became garbled.
"What's wrong with her?" asked Stefan, keeping his hand firmly in place.
"Werewolf bite," answered Finn casually.
"You know there's a cure. We can work something out. There's no need for this," argued Stefan, looking worriedly at Elena.
"Release her first, and then we'll talk," ordered Finn.
Stefan frowned, "What about Elena?"
"Look, the way I see it, my hostage is worth more than yours, for as you can see, she's already on her deathbed," Finn reasoned callously.
"No, Finn," Sage groaned, coughing and nearly falling as Stefan had to hold her up in case he accidentally took her heart by mistake should she fall.
Soon, she wasn't the only one coughing as his grip on Elena tightened at seeing his distraught wife.
"Elena!" cried Alaric, stepping forward, only to be forced to stop.
"Careful hunter, now release my WIFE!" yelled Finn, losing his patience.
Upon hearing his shout, Sage gained a moment of clarity and used it to grab Stefan's wrist and body, zooming towards Finn, who instantly met her halfway.
Stefan, unable to react fast enough, could do nothing to stop it as he fell into the hands of Finn, who tore him limb from limb in a matter of seconds.
First severing his arm with a chop so he couldn't hurt Sage, and then piece by piece until he was in six separate pieces, saving the head for last.
"Stefan!" Elena wailed, falling to her knees as the brutal scene revealed itself.
"No!" yelled Alaric, bringing his crossbow to bear with a white oak bolt, and he fired.
Finn caught it and threw it back, nailing him in the heart.
Alaric dropped to his knees, staring in disbelief at the bolt sticking out of his chest as he fell dead.
"Alaric!" Elena wept as her whole world crumbled around her.
"You, okay?" asked Finn, helping Sage to her feet as she stumbled with another coughing fit.
"I think so," she said, as he carefully pulled the arm out of her chest.
"Sit down, I'll take care of this," said Finn.
"Okay," said Sage, lying down on the floor.
Finn then turned his attention to Elena.
He sighed, "You may not believe me, but I am sorry this has happened to you. It's unfortunate you were born a doppelganger."
"I hate you!" she howled, "I hate you; I hate you all!... Why, God, why me!"
He lifted her, leaning her against the outside of the house, so she didn't have to see what he did. 'See, he could be nice,' he thought as his eyes were drawn to her necklace.
"I'm surprised they let you keep this. Mother's first Talisman, and Rebekah's most precious gift. You should have given this to the witch; she would have been able to put it to good use," said Finn, tearing it off her, ignoring the burning from the vervain, and pocketing it.
"Fuck you!" spat Elena.
"Sorry, I'm taken, better luck in your next life. Unlike my lesser siblings, I don't play with my food," said Finn, reaching out; she flinched, shaking with fear.
"Please, don't," she begged, tears flowing.
"Hey, it'll be okay. Think of it like going to sleep. A deep, deep, sleep, you never wake up from," his voice started soft, soon turned menacing as he took her head and began repeatedly bashing it against the brick.
"Finn," Sage coughed after he finished turning her head into a meat paste.
"You didn't ask about 'cough', white oak," said Sage.
"It's fine, I'm just going to burn it all," said Finn, tossing the body inside.
"Wait, I'm forgetting something... Doesn't she have a brother?"
