"Hello brother, it's about time you woke up," said Kol casually, seeing Elijah stir.
"You," said Elijah, speeding towards him.
Dodging. Kol puts his hands up defensively, "Woah, what's all this?"
"Why'd you snap my neck, Kol?" asked Elijah.
"You think I snapped your neck? Where'd you get a crazy idea like that?" asked Kol innocently.
"You deny it?" questioned Elijah, ready to pounce.
Kol spun his story, "Did you lose your memory? Finn and Sage ambushed us. He quickly stabbed you, and if you think your neck was broken, he probably snapped your neck and then came after me, just missing my heart with the dagger before leaving."
"If you think for one minute, I'll believe..." Elijah's voice trailed off as he spotted the dagger wound on Kol and himself.
"Do you think I would be waiting here protecting your body if I did something like that?" asked Kol, driving home the narrative.
Confused, Elijah tried to recall what happened, but couldn't think of when he got stabbed.
"We should head down. How long has it been since they left?" Elijah asked, choosing not to dwell on the problem any further.
"Not that long, I expect Klaus either has them or is angrily breaking something," said Kol, trying to hide his sly grin, having successfully gaslighted him.
Entering the lobby, Klaus was there, throwing a tantrum.
"Where were you two? I was this close to catching them," said Klaus furiously, kicking a body out of his way, where it made a splat and a thud against the wall.
"We were ambushed and daggered for a while," said Elijah, glancing at Kol.
"He was on the top floor then?" asked Klaus, eyeing the two of them.
"Yeah, him and Sage, no Mother," answered Kol.
"Where's Rebekah?" asked Elijah.
"I have no idea, should you find out, be sure to tell me, I would also like to know why she didn't return when I needed her," said Klaus.
.
As Sage was driving, she slammed on the brakes when Rebekah appeared in front of her in the middle of the road, grinning.
"You have no idea how long I've waited to do this," said Rebekah, sauntering towards her.
"Are you sure you can handle it?" asked Sage, stepping out.
"Bitch please, I'm an Original," said Rebekah, and attacked.
"The original Bitch," Sage smirked, rushing to meet her.
Sage caught Rebekah with the first two strikes, slapping away her pitiful attempts to hit back, and then landed a couple more satisfying punches to her face before things started to turn.
"Argh, wipe that smirk off your face before I wipe it for you. Do you think a couple of lucky hits are going to save you? I should have torn your filthy commoner head off all those years ago when you first approached Finn," Rebekah growled, moving in for the kill.
While Rebekah has never been a fighter, she is ultimately an Original. The struggle begins to reflect the earlier confrontation between Finn and Klaus. Despite her inexperience in combat, Rebekah's speed and strength are proving to be more than Sage can manage, given that she has never engaged in a fight at this level.
On the back foot, Sage did her best to compensate, but a lucky wild swing from Rebekah caught her off guard, throwing her back, landing on the hood of the car.
"Any last words? Maybe something I can tell Finn before Klaus does him in," Rebekah taunted, stalking closer.
Sage scowled, and just when all hope seemed lost, she grinned as Finn arrived in a blur, appearing behind her.
Rebekah, seeing the grin, paled as she spun around.
"Hello Rebekah, Goodbye Rebekah," he mocked, snapping her neck.
"Finn!" Sage exclaimed happily upon seeing him, running over to check on him out of habit.
"Glad I made it in time, are you alright?" he asked, checking her over, wiping some traces of blood away at the corner of her mouth.
"I'm fine. First time fighting an Original. I think I did alright," said Sage.
"Hmm, I think we can fix that. And you might not be an Original, but you'll still be worth sparring with, so we'll both be better next time," said Finn.
"I may not be an Original, but I can still show you a thing or two about modern fighting. I've been in plenty of scraps over the years," said Sage confidently.
"Sounds good to me," Finn grinned, "Now let's get this bitch daggered, and get to the warehouse."
And they were off.
"Why are we going to the warehouse? Isn't that where you first ran into them?" asked Sage.
"I don't like leaving things left undone, besides the chances of them coming back here are slim to none," said Finn.
"Oh, right, Damon," said Sage, having done her best to put him out of her mind since learning of his awful deeds.
Passing by the car he abandoned, he stops to get the blood bags, not letting them go to waste.
"You can wait here if you want, I shouldn't be long," said Finn, parking at the warehouse.
"I think I will," said Sage, watching him drag Rebekah out of the back.
"Alright, be back soon," said Finn, heading on in.
"Ah, Damon, that's not good, you're almost desiccated. I guess I could spare one bag for your final send-off," said Finn, placing Rebekah down. "Don't give me that look, there's nothing I can do. I've been forced to move, and I didn't just want to leave you hanging here waiting."
"Don't worry though. Your last night here at Finn's famous spa of relaxation and tranquility will be one for the record books. However, I am still deciding on whether I should let you have your last acid bath or send you through the meat grinder. What do you think?" asked Finn, looking between the two choices.
"Hm, undecided? Well, think about it while I go get you a bag," said Finn, leaving Damon there shaking in fear. His eyes traveling to Rebekah's daggered form as if trying to will the dagger out so she could save them both.
"Finished?" asked Sage when he returned.
"Nah, I figured he needed one more bag so he can go out with a bang, you know, make it memorable in case there's an afterlife to remember," said Finn.
Sage shuddered, "You know Finn, you can be really scary sometimes."
He grinned. "I know, isn't it great?"
She couldn't help but grin, thinking how cute he looked with his bright, childlike smile. "Yeah," she swooned, completely forgetting what he was doing.
"Later," said Finn, heading back in.
Back inside, he forcibly feeds Damon and waits for him to heal.
"You crazy bastard!" Damon spat when he was well enough to speak.
Finn frowned, "Now that's not very nice after all I've done for you."
Damon scowled, "Fuck you!"
"You need to cool down," said Finn, and released the lever, thus ending Damon in the most agonizing way imaginable. Whether it was better or worse than going feet-first into the grinder was debatable, though from the thrashing, splashing, and the bubbled drowning screams coming from inside the acid bath, one would think it's no contest as the elder Salvator brother was slowly dissolved alive.
"Now, what to do with you?" Finn asked, looking down at Rebekah.
Deciding to take pity on her because she was more a victim of circumstance, he gently lowered her into the acid bath and waited with bated breath to see what would happen. Could an Original die from anything other than a white oak stake? He was about to find out.
At least that was the plan.
Something unusual happened while he watched her: an itch in his head that he couldn't quite scratch.
Blacking out for a bit there after watching the acid fail to eat through her fast enough, he awoke outside, covered in blood with clothes dissolved by acid and dagger in hand, walking to the car.
Sage got out, asking, "What happened?"
"I'm not quite sure," said Finn, looking lost as he tried to recall what he did.
Seeing his confusion, she pulled him to the car and said, "How about we get out of here?"
"Alright, but I think you should drive," said Finn, moving to the passenger's side.
"Don't worry, I know the perfect place," said Sage, taking the wheel.
The ride was unusually quiet as flashes of what transpired played out in his head.
Pulling up to an abandoned house, she once used as a base to keep track of the Originals. She led him inside to the shower, placing spare clothes he could change into before leaving to get a new phone, having destroyed her old one after contacting Troy and filling him in on what he needed to know.
When she returned, she found him lying in bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Hey Finn, how are you doing?" Sage asked with concern, plopping down next to him.
After a while, Finn said, "I may not have been entirely honest with you when you asked about how I changed. "
Her brows scrunched. "What do you mean?" she asked, her stomach in knots. She had a feeling something like this was coming.
Finn sighed, "Those 900 years I was daggered… I wasn't asleep the entire time."
"What? You weren't asleep? But I thought it puts you in a death-like state," said Sage, perplexed.
"It's supposed to. And it did, until it didn't. At some point, I woke up. Trapped in my own body, in my own mind," Finn breathed.
Sage paled, "How long? How long were you awake while trapped?" she asked as the weight of his words hit her.
"No idea. It could have been years, decades, possibly even centuries… I'm afraid I may have gone a little mad," said Finn gloomily, "I blacked out back there at the warehouse, I can remember very little of what happened, but I think I killed her for good."
"Oh Finn," cried Sage, feeling for him, bringing him into a warm hug. Letting his head rest against her chest as he cuddled into her, seeking comfort. Lulling him to sleep by stroking his hair, as she cursed herself for not trying to find a way to get to him sooner.
Had she known what he was going through, nothing would have stopped her from trying.
