"When I was younger, I always thought I was destined to struggle. I wished for everything, but I got nothing. Then, as an adult, I almost lost my sister.
But when I got her back, I realized that maybe I wasn't meant to struggle forever. Maybe there's more to life than the bad stuff."
The girl turned to him, her eyes softening. "You really believe that, huh?"
Lucas chuckled lightly.
"Yeah, I do. I'm interning at a big company now, and it's not much, but considering I wasn't even sure I'd be able to afford college, I think I've come a long way. Things are still tough, but… I know now that if we keep fighting, things will get better."
The girl shook her head in disbelief. "You should be a motivational speaker," she said, her tone light, but there was an edge of respect in her voice.
Lucas chuckled. "Funny you say that, I'm trying it out as a side hustle."
The girl shook her head again and laughed. "You really are something else."
