Chapter 1 - Chapter one

[Three Centuries Ago]

In the time of gods, enchanted beasts and mystical beings. Where humans still live in their earliest form —still ruled by kings and emperors. Still growing.

Where some of them had the opportunities to encounter divine beings and gods

Learned magic and interact with gods and different beings.

The humans, gods and other mystical and enchanted beings coexisted in harmony, understanding and trust, free from prejudice

Except One!

The Sirens!

The Sirens, were the only mystical creatures hated by gods and humans, and they returned that hate equally.

The Sirens were renowned for their striking beauty, their alluring voice and prowess of both the sky and sea.

Most gods shunned them for their formidable powers. The Sirens could morph into winged forms to command the winds, or transform their lower bodies into tails to control the waters. Their voices alone could kill or save a god, giving them the potential to claim divinity themselves one day.

So the sirens were cast away from their homes in the sky, and found refuge in the sea.

The Sirens cursed the god for their betrayal, vowing never to have anything to do with them and cutting their ties with them completely.

But the sea didn't bring peace.

Their descent on the sea brought pain to the humans, disrupting their lifes, as the Sirens kill their husbands, sons, and siblings of the human. For dominance over the sea.

For decades, bloodshed reigned between the sirens and men, until an amicable peace was achieved through negotiation between them

But something happened. In the Mavenixa —the city of the Mer-people. Something that against the laws of the sirens.

The queen of Mavenixa and a god, fell in love and birthed a child — an abomination to the Sirens. A mix breed. A stain to both the sky and the sea.

Hunted, the queen vanished from Mavenixa, fleeing into the human world, leaving her people and duty —in Mavenixa. To care for her child.

But the happy life she created in Lux, a town far away from the coast, guarded by towering walls.

Didn't last long.

In the dead of the night, thunder roared, the earth was damp as heavy rain fell.

The howling of wolves, the chirping of crickets, and the hooting of owls could be heard.

In a house far into a forest, within the darkness, was a room lit only by the flickering fire in the chimney.

The soft whimpering of a woman's struggling voice filled the air. Her hands and feet were bound to the cold floor by a glacial spiral coil of enchanted water.

"Search everywhere!" Luxen commanded four male guards, her voice high-pitched and sharp. "That abomination must be killed. She cannot be left to live, no matter what. If not, she will bring calamity to the Mer-people!" Luxen paced frantically around the once warm, square room, her fury palpable. "Where is that monstrosity, Lixenda?" she barked. "Where did you hide that abomination?! Speak!" Luxen lunged forward, grabbing Lixenda's face roughly and squeezing it hard.

"Luxen, you'll never find her! Leave my child alone!" Lixenda declared, her eyes narrowing into slits, each stare at Luxen a poisonous dart.

"Child! Did she say child?" Luxen turned briefly to two male figures standing at the entrance, then threw her arms wide, a scornful expression on her face, as she crouched to Lixenda's level. "You lay with a god... created a half-breed monstrosity, staining our bloodline. And you dare call it a child?"

"Why are you doing this? S-she won't be a threat to you. I promise! I-I-I can—" Lixenda stammered, desperation thick in her voice.

"Can do what?" Luxen sneered. "Your promise means nothing, Lixenda." Luxen turned her back to Lixenda, walking towards the heavy wooden table. "I'll see to it personally that she's removed before she brings destruction to Mavenixa—to the entire Mer-people."

"No! You can't do that! I won't allow it!" Lixenda shrieked, her voice trembling with a nascent power. Her eyes turned bloodshot red as crystal ice blazed from them, while corrosive silver tears ran down her cheeks, sizzling and burning the floor where they fell.

Her body trembled violently as the sounds of cracking bones could be heard, her fingers stretching further, morphing into scales and webbing together.

Luxen placed her hands over her stomach, her hysterical laugh cutting through the air. "What are you doing, bringing out your powers? Do you think you could fight me in your state? And that you're still the queen? Not anymore, not after you chose a god and left for the human world over us, over the Mer-people? Ta-da, news flash: I'm the queen now!"

With a flick of her wrist, Lixenda's body lifted off the floor, suspended mid-air.

Luxen's arm morphed into a sharp water-glass spear, which she then drove into Lixenda's chest. "When you get to the realms of water, wait for your daughter. She's coming to join you soon." Luxen leaned in close, whispering into Lixenda's ear, "Or why don't you call on your lover, Zos, to come save you? Since he's the king of the gods."

Luxen pulled her arm out, and Lixenda's body hit the floor with a sickening thud. Her brow furrowed, a painful, twisted grimace contorting her face as she coughed out blood.
