Aiden froze. Her words stung, and for a moment, he felt a strange heaviness in his chest.
He knew she was right. Spencer would never look at him that way. But hearing it out loud… it made the reality of it hit harder. Still, he wasn't going to show weakness.
"I know that," Aiden said stiffly. "I don't need you to remind me of it."
Mia took a step closer, her voice soft but full of a strange sincerity.
"But you know, even if Spencer doesn't see you that way... You can still be close to him. You can at least be his best friend. That bond is beautiful, too.
You might not get the love you want from him, but you will get his care. He'll talk to you, and you'll be able to spend time together. That's better than nothing, right?"
Aiden stood there for a moment, processing her words. His mind raced as he tried to understand what Mia was getting at.
