Aleckin sighed, losing patience. He didn't like how Margarette interrogated him. She acted as if she were his girlfriend, suspicious of anything he did and constantly checking on him as if she wanted to catch him having an affair.
"Why do you ask, Margarette? Can't I go anywhere with anyone?"
Margarette was taken aback at how cold Aleckin was to her. Just the other day, they shared a sumptuous dinner. Now, he is giving her a cold shoulder—again.
"Of course you can…. I was just surprised you were with Rebecca," she stuttered, then added, "Aren't we supposed to have breakfast with the executives? We waited for you all morning."
Hearing that, Aleckin was even impatient. "Margarette, I've told you I may be late for the meeting with the executives, so I didn't promise to join this morning. I thought you understood that already and explained to them."
"I—I did, of course. But…" Margarette pursed her lips and lowered her gaze to conceal the annoyance in her eyes.
