Chapter 87 - The Weighing 3

Marco stood firm, his hand was now buried in his chest. As the wound squelched blood the room descended into dead silence.

Anubis wanted to test Marco, he simply presented him with the knife to test him. One that wanted to destroy everything would never risk putting their trust in other beings.

The act of one gouging out their own hearts? You do not even need to say anything, that simple act would leave 'all' beings vulnerable. If he had hesitated while performing the act, not only would he be in agony but might cause various traumas that might never heal.

Thus he attempted to use the golden knife he presented as a test. It had two versions, the first is that if swift action were to be taken the pain would be greatly reduced. But if the user hesitated the pain would be multiplied continuously.

But playing by his own insane script he simply chose to gouge out his own heart using his bare hands. The act alone was insane but adding the context of doing it amidst two powerful gods spoke volumes.

His eyes conveyed his intentions, he clearly trusted Thanatos. He knew that the humble god would help him if he was attacked. Considering that although they only spent a day with each other.

Marco had gained Thanatos's respect with his attitude and mentality. This in itself was quite the impossible task as the innate pride in all gods tended to make Thanatos disgusted with them.

Instead of pointing his nose up at the world and swaggering like he owned everything and everyone. The humble and easy going attitude of his swayed Thanatos, this was especially the case with the Cerbi incident.

Although Anubis does not know anything about Marco, this action announced one thing loud and clear. It was that Marco was a fool but he was someone that would gather people around him effortlessly.

Those acquaintances would be no simple person too, but someone that would support him. Not someone like Zeus who would use everyone and everything to reach his goals.

Another splotch was heard when Marco pulled out his heart and placed it on the scale. The moment he did Anubis opened his eyes wide.

Why was his reaction pure shock? Was it due to the scale? Perhaps it was Thanatos's reaction? Nope, it was the simple fact that Marco's heart was somehow pitch black.

The still beating and pitch black heart was releasing small pulses of black energy that felt frankly disgusting to the two gods present.

The though the Egyptian god of death's attention was fully on the pulsing heart, the scale began doing it job the moment the heart was placed.

The scale immediately tried to balance Marco's heart, typically the weighing was simple as the feather would either rise or fall and be finished.

But this case was abnormal, something that Anubis had clearly never seen in his entire existence. Ma'at's feather was now releasing a bright golden power while trying to weigh the man's heart.

As the amount of energy surrounding the feather increased the heart too started to pulse harder emitting more dark spine chilling power.

The only irony of the situation was that the feather was constantly heavier than the heart. As the items on the scale warred against each other, the trio just watched the process in silence.
