Anubis gulped, he assumed that the simple looking man was a servant he had brought him as a present. But hearing the sheer nonsense that came out of Thanatos left him speechless.
He wanted to laugh off his friend's words, he truly tried to. But it was the deathly seriousness in Thanatos' eyes that prevented him from doing anything.
He mechanically looked at Marco who until now was still wearing a carefree expression. Now after hearing the description Anubis was on high alert, he was now prepared to defend himself in the event of any possibility.
Marco saw Anubis's reaction but paid it no heed. He knew that Anubis now would not needlessly antagonize him. Ignoring the mood, Marco's words cut through the thick atmosphere.
"Anubis, I ask that you weigh my intentions. Though if I pass I want to make a simple request of you." Marco finished with a child-like smile.
The innocence brimming in that simple smile made Anubis lower his guard a little. "Fine, I will do as you ask." Anubis replied as he stood up.
Anubis's eyes gleamed with power slowly building, his countenance was now exotic. His height started growing, originally he was six foot two. But as more power accumulated his height was now reaching seven feet.
His jackal-like face also began to look more ferocious. In the beginning, he looked like an elegant beast's, but now it started becoming more monstrous.
Fur exploded from his head now looking akin to a monstrously terrifying pitch-black jackal.
Power stopped building as he turned his sharp gaze to Marco. "Now, step before me." Marco smiled gently and walked forward, his confident strides took him before the terrifying death god of Egypt.
Now we shall weigh your heart against a feather, If you are pure the weight of your heart will not be heavier than Ma'at's feather. But on the other hand, if your heart is heavier this proves that you are wicked."
Anubis raised both his arms slowly, and as he did the sands of Egypt slowly began to rise and condense. The once golden grains of sand slowly melded together and formed a scale.
Once the scales formed he lowered his arms and looked into his palm. A flash of power erupted as he summoned Ma'at's feather, after admiring the feather's pristine beauty Anubis placed the feather on the left scale.
"Now Marco, place your heart on the right side and we shall begin." Anubis spoke while a small golden knife appeared before Marco.
Amusement clearly visible on his face Marco shook his head. "Here I assumed that you of all beings would have a method to remove someone's heart painlessly." Marco joked still looking into Anubis's eyes.
Anubis shook his head before gently correcting Marco's misunderstanding. "Don't misunderstand, typically when this judgement is performed on a human all that requires of me to 'painlessly' remove their hearts is to simply materialise it on the scale"
He looked into Marco's eyes for a long minute before continuing. "Judging from how potent your soul is I cannot meddle too much, something on the lines of removing your heart now becomes extremely complex and hazardous."
Pausing for a moment he then clarified his intentions. "This method that I present before you is simply the most efficient manner to proceed without too much pain and hassle. Thus I presented you with this knife."
Marco's face turned deathly serious as he glared at the knife with a contemplative look. He really didn't want to carve himself like a thanksgiving turkey to finish this task.
But seeing that he had no choice he decided to ask something before taking action. "Does the manner in which I remove my heart matter?"
Hearing Marco's question Anubis simply shook his head, clearly showing that no matter the method as long as his heart was removed anything goes.
Marco's eyes darkened into dark spheres, he concentrated his powers on his fingertips. Sharp pitch black talons formed, and before anyone could react a splotch was heard with dripping accompanying it.
