Chapter 74 - Secrets in the War Room

The Commander and General were just about to walk out of the door when the phone rang. The secretary called out to the Commander "Sir, a Madam Bones is on the phone, requesting to speak with you." The Commander picked up a phone and answered "Good morning Madam Bones, How may I help you?" "Good morning Commander. It appears we have lost 10 Aurors last night, without a trace. The Minister asked me to make contact with Prime Minister Majors. Can you facilitate a meeting for me?" she asked. "I believe we can help you. Will anybody be joining you?" he responded. "Yes. The Minister himself." She chuckled. "I told the Minister that I wanted him to come with me as the last time I was given a warning he totally ignored me, and this time I want him to hear it directly." "Well said, Madam. Well said. I am running a little late for a meeting. Let me pass you over to my secretary here and he can give you the number to call to schedule an appointment with the Prime Minister. I will follow up with the PMs office to make sure I am there as well. Will that help?" he asked. "Excellent and Thank You, Commander." With that, the Commander passed the phone to the secretary and left the office.

December 24, 1995, 10:00am, 10 Downing Street, London – The Commander and General were escorted into Prime Minister John Major's office. "Good Morning Prime Minister" "Good Morning Gentlemen" he replied. "Prime Minister, could we take this into a more secure room" the Commander asked. The Prime Minister raised his eyebrow. "More secure?" he asked. "Yes, sir." Then the Commander leant forward and whispered "The portrait can listen and see everything in this room, and report back to certain people, those we want to discuss, sir" the Commander said. "Very well Gentlemen. Let's go into the war room." The Prime Minister offered.

"All right, gentlemen. What did you want to discuss?" the PM asked. "Sir, Madam Bones was with us at Christ Church yesterday morning. She was witness to how we dealt with things. I used that to convey the seriousness of the message you wanted to send to the Ministry. She understood clearly. Later that day, Madam Bones presented a summary of events that happened at Christ Church, along with our warning to their Minister. He would hear none of it. He threatened to arrest the Grangers – they are the people Midshipman Fenix was dining with on December 20th when Death Eaters attacked them. Fudge, of course claims that all the Death Eaters were "good citizens", at both events. Madam Bones warned me of what Fudge was planning to do regarding the Grangers. I contacted Midshipman Fenix, who was staying with them, to warn them of the possible action. He was able to get them to a safe haven, and then set up an ambush for the Aurors. I have here video recordings of thermal imaging taken by my Recon units from outside the residence, and another video recording of Midshipman's 'interrogation' of said Aurors. She called me this morning asking my help in contacting you, to make an appointment to meet – apparently Minister Fudge woke up with egg on his face and was too …ashamed is the polite word, to make the appointment himself." The Commander said. "Yes, she called a little while ago – we set the meeting up for Noon today." The PM replied. "Now, set up these videos and let's have a look at them. And I would like to see this Midshipman, immediately after the videos." Said the PM. "Yes sir. There may be a delay in contacting him. He does not have a telephone, something we have discussed that needs to be rectified. That being said, I will get him here as expediently as possible." The Commander replied.

"General Black – if you could set up the tapes, I'll try and contact the Midshipman." The Commander asked. He turned and exited the building. As he suspected, the white owl was perched outside. It hopped over to a corner away from the view of the ever-present journalists and photographers. The Commander gave the owl a note for the Midshipman. The owl alighted and disappeared from eyesight not a minute later.

A few minutes later, the Commander returned to the war room. General Black was explaining what they were seeing on the thermal image video. The PM was ….surprised when all the images just disappeared. "The video recording didn't just end, did it? They just disappeared? I thought this Midshipman wasn't magical, is he?" the PM asked. "We are not exactly sure how to answer that right now. Why don't we wait for him to arrive." Said the Commander.

They were about 15 minutes into the interrogation tape when a security officer knocked on the door. "Sir, there is a Midshipman Fenix here for the Commander, I believe. Can you authenticate?" he asked. "General – can you confirm?" the PM asked. The General nodded and exited the room along with the security officer. They returned a minute later with the Midshipman. Together they watched the rest of the interrogation. "How do we know these Aurors are telling the truth?" asked the PM. "They can't lie, sir. I gave them a truth serum." Said Evan. "A truth serum. We have something like that?" asked the PM, looking at the Commander. "I do, sir." Responded Evan. "And we have these Aurors as our prisoners?" asked the PM. "Guests, sir" responded the Commander.
