Chapter 54 - I Raised You

Who never heard or has never been advised on things concerning their relationships? They are messy and beautiful, scary and fun and most of all? You can never feel it smooth sailing once embarked on the ship!

Jake always envied Philip's relationships, how he gives it his all to each and every one of them. Placing a trust on some place obviously unworthy... Whatever Philip gets at the end of every one, it's never his fault because, he did everything he could to save each one unlike him someone with trust issues.

He had seemingly three relationships so far and all them died with different reasons. It wasn't mostly his partners faults, he knows it now. He's never all in, that's all.

Trust is everything in a relationship, don't you agree? But, if you had gone through all pits of hell because of it, even if it was just a one time thing, you'll rethink on who to give it to, for the rest of your life!

He can just look at Philip across from him who was happily chatting with their customers after service. He was this picture of a beautiful charming woman, confident, open, radiant and without worries... The small man with wrinkles is nowhere to be found! Everything in him changed when he met Aiden. Why can't it be him, God?

Why can't he love just like everybody else out there? Why does he have to overanalyze everything about his partners? Why does he have to look for alternatives when they'd be done with each other 'theoretically'?

Jake was starting to feel lik, he was only considering entering a relationship with a woman out of desperation, did he truly want Aileen? Was he straight now, Bi? Pan? Or was she just there when he needed to feel good about himself? And Aileen... what could she probably get from getting together with him? He wasn't even a looker in that department.

Jake couldn't help having a glance at the wall mirror, all fat with no sense of fashion style, antisocial with massive amounts of anxiety, no talent and very much old...

"Okay, okay... time for lunch" Came Philip's voice as she dragged Jake unknowingly rescuing him from himself.

"It's that time already? What's for lunch?" Questioned Jake to no one in particular but, Philip had some concerns over Jake.

He was so distracted most of the time that day and made too many mistakes to make it a coincidence or a bad day bullshit.

"Is everything okay?" Asked Philip with concern as they set foot in their office kitchen making Jake startled and feel cornered.

"Yeah... Uhm..." Started Jake nervously.

"Out with it! Lay it all on mama's shoulders, she can handle it" Said Philip encouraging Jake.

"Maybe you are right" Muttered Jake sadly.

"Since when?" Retorted Philip seriously and genuinely curious without missing a beat making Jake laugh.

"Fair enough but, I think you were on to something when you said something about 'my Aiden' not caring enough for me. I mean I did spend the night with her and I didn't eat breakfast" Explained Jake feeling down.

"You know that I was just being a bitch earlier, right?" Questioned Philip cautiously, "I'm sorry but, I didn't mean any harm by it and as a matter of fact, you could totally took her for breakfast"

"I know, I know but, you know me when I start thinking...!" Said Jake with a whiny tone.

"God! It never ends well. So, you want to break up with me?" Teased Philip earning a playfully slap from Jake.

"Her" Replied Jake sulking making Philip laugh at his childish behaviour.

"Because of breakfast?!" Asked Philip in mocking tone.

"When you put it like that, I seem petty and childish" Pointed out Jake sulking even more.

"The only two things that you excel at... that I bet she doesn't know yet?" Said Philip sarcastically.

"Am I making the right decision here?" Asked Jake seriously

"Oh My Godess!!" Exclaimed Philip as she turned to Jake with a blinding knowing smile scaring the crap out of him.

"What?" Questioned Jake afraid of the reply.

"Bitch, you are in so deep! I have to meet her, no excuses" Demanded Philip jumping up and down like a kid.

"Did you just hear anything I said?" Questioned Jake skeptically.

"Who cares? What's a relationship if it's not experienced? Let them butterflies eat you from inside out but, never kill something barely alive. Honey, don't overthink this there's no perfect love" Advised Philip with a mature air about him.

"Well, you got it with Aiden. Bitch, you are literally glowing" Complained Jake cutely.

"Oh, that's because, I sleep well and take my meals on time. Nothing special" Replied Philip nonchalantly.

"Not even a facial?" Hinted Jake knowingly making Philip chuckle.

"You! But, seriously... Now that I'm this day old, I think I'm allowed to conclude that every great love story are better told when the narrator is happy and satisfied with their lives"

"Criptic as always" Mumbled Jake with a roll of his eyes but, he got the gist of it.

"Just let yourself feel this moment, who knows? Maybe tomorrow you will thank yourself for giving yourself a break and her, the benefit of the doubt" Advised Philip like a love guru.

"Sometimes you sound quite old" Pointed out Jake earning a dramatic gasp from Philip.

"I mean I raised you... what else can you expect?" Replied Philip haughtily.

"Fuck you" Said Jake all teary and laughing at the same time. He loved Philip. He would give up anything if it meant keeping him.

He was just a boy earning for keep before he met Philip on that messy night. The chaos, police, angry wives, crying children, drugs...

He found him by a dead client's bed and forcibly took him under his wing. He saw and heard when Philip was fighting with Stanley for a place for him to stay, fed him, took him to school... He was literally his guardian!
