Chapter 463: Impel Down Warden
In the Red Lotus Hell, everyone turned to look at the entrance to Level 1.
That not-so-tall figure still firmly drew everyone's gaze.
"Rockefeller Charlotte! Who is that?"
Some less-informed pirates instinctively asked.
"Why is he here? Was he captured too?"
Others guessed that Rockefeller Charlotte had been caught by the Marines.
But after seeing the surroundings, those who had guessed quickly shook their heads.
This didn't look like a capture at all—it was clearly a prison break!
"Mr. Rockefeller, let me out! I'm willing to serve under you!"
One prisoner immediately shouted upon recognizing Rockefeller Charlotte.
Charlotte looked around at the emaciated prisoners and gave a small smile.
To the pirates, that smile seemed kind and benevolent.
"No problem. I'll get you all out now, just wait a bit."
Charlotte smiled as he gestured to the others.
Immediately, several crew members walked out carrying a huge bunch of keys and approached the various cells, unlocking them one by one.
"Now, I declare you all free!"
Charlotte opened his arms wide, addressing everyone.
"Roar!"
The freed prisoners began to shout wildly as they stepped out of their cells.
They had believed they'd rot away in Impel Down for the rest of their lives—yet someone had come to rescue them.
They were free now.
"I'm gonna eat like a king tonight!"
Many cheered excitedly.
"Find weapons! The guards will regroup soon!"
Some of the sharper ones yelled, grabbing weapons from fallen enemies and running toward freedom.
Charlotte didn't stop them. He kept heading toward Level 2.
Originally, they'd planned to use the lift, but it had been destroyed by guards at the start of the raid.
They had to descend level by level.
Soon, they reached Level 2—Beast Hell.
At this point, countless monsters roared in the darkness.
They could smell flesh, their eyes glinting with hunger as they stared at Charlotte's crew.
"Kill!"
Esdeath barked coldly, leading crew members into the fray.
Charlotte drew his Seven-Star Sword, lightning flickering across the blade, and headed straight for the entrance to Level 3.
Any beast that got close fell to his blade.
Meanwhile, news of the invasion had reached the Warden and Magellan.
"What did you say?! The Rockefeller Pirates are invading Impel Down?!"
The Warden jumped to his feet in disbelief as Magellan rushed in.
"It's true, sir! All of Impel Down's communications are down. This message was passed through blood and sacrifice—it can't be wrong!"
Magellan said seriously.
"Hurry! Mobilize all of Impel Down's defenses. Have them hold Rockefeller's crew at Level 4!"
The Warden shouted, rising from his seat.
"Yes sir!"
Magellan ran off.
"Contact Shiryu! Tell him the Rockefeller Pirates have invaded and he must defend Level 4!"
The Warden added quickly.
"Try to reach the Marines. We need backup now!"
he ordered another deputy.
Everyone received their commands and sprang into action.
But Rockefeller Charlotte wasn't about to wait for them to react.
Level 2's guards were quickly wiped out by the Rockefeller Pirates, and all the cells were opened.
Impel Down fell into chaos once more.
They reached Level 3—Starvation Hell.
There was barely any resistance. Under the shocked gazes of the prisoners, the Rockefeller Pirates quickly defeated the remaining guards and released more inmates.
Before long, they arrived at the entrance to Level 4—Blazing Hell.
Charlotte's Observation Haki told him there were countless guards on this floor, and two strong presences ahead.
He grinned.
"Alright boys, the real fight starts now!"
His voice echoed between Levels 3 and 4.
The entire crew's expressions turned serious as they followed him.
As they approached the entrance, light poured out.
Heat washed over them in waves.
"Attack!"
The guards, already in formation, charged at the Rockefeller Pirates.
"Kill!"
Barrett rushed forward with the crew behind him.
Charlotte remained still, eyeing the aged man standing in front of him.
"If I'm not wrong, you must be the Warden of Impel Down."
Charlotte smirked.
"Rockefeller Charlotte, you had a path to heaven and refused it. Instead, you step willingly into hell. Stay here forever!"
The man's muscles bulged and he vanished from sight.
Charlotte looked up as the man descended with a punch from above.
"Heh!"
Charlotte sneered, lightning coiling around his Seven-Star Sword.
Boom!
He slashed upward, unleashing a surge of Conqueror's Haki at the Warden's face.
Bang!
Sword met fist with a shockwave.
Rumble!
The impact was so loud it startled prisoners all the way down at Level 6.
Everyone looked upward, even though it was pitch-black above them—they could feel the clash.
"What happened up there? Is someone fighting?"
Voices of confusion spread as anxiety gripped the inmates.
Shiryu on Level 5 especially felt the tremor.
There was something in that shockwave… something that almost made him want to submit.
Then, a group of guards burst in.
"Warden Shiryu! The Rockefeller Pirates have invaded! The Warden needs you at Level 4!"
The guard gasped.
"What did you say?! The Rockefeller Pirates invaded?! That's impossible!"
Shiryu grabbed the guard's collar in disbelief.
It was too shocking.
Impel Down had never once been invaded in its entire history.
Many outside the government didn't even know it existed—much less where it was.
"Warden Shiryu, it's true! Rockefeller Charlotte himself is leading the attack!"
the guard hurried to explain.
"Hmph!"
Shiryu shoved the man aside and stormed toward Level 4.
Back on Level 4—
Charlotte had just knocked the Warden into a wall with a single strike.
"Fool."
He sheathed his sword and kept walking.
"Warden! Don't let Rockefeller Charlotte through!"
Magellan arrived, a massive venomous dragon forming around him.
