Rufus felt helpless and at a loss for words as he watched the senator succumb to his overwhelming emotions. He thought of the right words to say to cheer his boss up without overstepping his boundaries.
"Sir, are we still going to Madam Amelia's house as earlier planned?" Rufus asked calmly, knowing how the mention of the senator's daughter's name always brought warmth to his face.
"Yes..." Senator Gregory replied in a raspy voice. He brought out his handkerchief and wiped his face while clearing his clogged airway.
"Take me to my daughter's house."
"Okay, senator." Rufus signalled the chauffeur to get moving.
A deafening silence hung inside the moving car for a few minutes before the Senator hoarse voice came up again.
"What about that animal?"
"My men dropped him off at the gate to his Fort bungalow, where his wife and children picked him up and took him inside."
