Cherreads

Chapter 67 - A bit of hair.

A second of hesitation later, he pulled the blade across his skin, causing a small cut to open up, revealing red blood that slowly emerged from the wound.

Reed took the blade from his hands and the both of them watched the wound in silence paying close attention to it.

A second later, the flow of blood slowed, then stopped, and Ghran watched in awe as the wound slowly closed.

It took a little more than seventeen seconds for the wound to heal, a fact that Ghran marveled at.

Reed handed him a cloth, he took it and wiped the blood off of his arm, clearing away the obstruction to see that his skin was unmarked, no indication that there had ever been a wound there.

He silently let out a few words of wonder under his breath.

"The regeneration is not limitless, it draws upon your physical energy, so remember to keep yourself well-fed."

"Right." Ghran acknowledged Reed's word, but did not pay much attention to them, because he had already heard them once before.

He put his hand down, bringing it to rest by his side as he turned to look at his boss.

"What do we do now boss?" He asked Reed.

"First, we get you your hair back, then you can go train with firearms, or you can go do one of the tests I have made for you, your choice." Reed laid his two choices and turned to leave the room.

"Let's go," He called out. "You look weird like this."

Ghran chuckled as he moved to follow, with a question on his mind.

'What do I look like?'

He decided to find out.

As the two of them walked through the base, he asked Reed something.

"Can I get a mirror?" He asked as he walked next to Reed, who raised an eyebrow.

"Sure." Reed sent his thoughts into his storage and brought out a ring, from which he brought out a small palm-sized mirror, which he tossed to his subordinate.

The subordinate in question caught it and took a look at his reflection.

"Hmm." Ghran hummed as he looked at the person in the mirror, who he could not recognize in the slightest.

"This is a bit disturbing" In all of the years he had been alive, he had never seen such a hairless person, and it was more than a bit uncomfortable, knowing that he was looking at himself.

"It is, isn't it? I really don't like it." Reed admitted as Ghran handed the mirror back. "Tell me, how long do you want your hair?" The mirror disappeared from his hand, followed by the ring.

Ghran studied his boss's expression, but there was a look of genuine curiosity on it, which confused him.

"Is this a test?" He asked when he realized that he wouldn't gain anything from Reed's face.

"Maybe." Reed's expression did not change as he maintained eye contact. "Maybe not."

Ghran stared for a moment, before shrugging.

"The way it was before was fine, and anything longer than that could be easily grabbed, but anything shorter than that is fine as well, as long as it's not shorter than a few centimeters."

"Uh-huh." Reed nodded and asked another question. "What about your facial hair, that magnificent beard of yours, do you want it back?" He asked about his facial hair.

"My beard..." Ghran brought his hand to his chin and ran his fingers over it, now noticing the total lack of the hair that used to be there. "Yes... I would like that back."

Reed nodded again, agreeing with Ghran's choice as a door slid open and they entered a room. "Good, it would be a pity not to keep your beard."

He pressed a button and the lights activated.

He walked to a shelf that held dozens of small, identical, unmarked potion bottles, all of them filled with a light yellow translucent liquid.

"Lie down." Reed gestured to a bed to the side as he picked up one of the bottles.

As Ghran obeyed the command, Reed walked a little to the right, in front of another shelf, this one holding jars half filled with a thick, whitish-green liquid.

He opened one of the jars and poured the contents of the potion bottle into it.

Then he closed the jar and took it off the shelf.

He slowly moved his arms, moving the jar in a circle, causing its contents to mix slowly, he did this for five seconds.

Then he examined the jar, nodded, and started to shake it violently.

As he did so, the color of the liquid started to change.

It turned a bright orange.

Ghran blinked as he watched this happen.

'That's not what yellow and green make, right?' He wondered as Reed examined the jar again.

He thought about it for a moment, before giving up.

'I'm no artist, and boss doesn't seem worried.'

Reed walked over to him and placed the jar down beside him.

"Close your eyes, you're going to stay like this for half an hour." Reed declared as he opened the jar.

Ghran hummed in acknowledgment and closed his eyes.

"May I ask what is being applied to me?" He asked as Reed dipped two of his fingers into the mixture.

"It is a mixture of multiple potions and ointments." He said as he brought out his hand and placed his fingers on Ghran's forehead. "Without any details about its composition or preparation," He spread the mixture across Ghran's scalp. "it will regrow your hair, and also make it look better and easier to manage."

Reed rubbed the mixture on the place where Ghran's eyebrows were supposed to be, followed by his chin and the sides of his face.

"It also has no side effects." Reed chuckled after he said that last part.

"If this was present in my previous life and as easy to acquire as I found it, it would never be available due to the crazy customer base it would have."

Ghran did not speak, but he did let out a nasal sound to respond.

"The beds going to move and lift you up, don't move." Reed warned and pulled a lever and pushed something up.

A part of the bed moved up, making Ghran almost sit upright, and revealing the back of his head.

Reed walked behind and started to apply the mixture on the untouched parts.
