Sufiyan stood there montionless as Fannah drove off in the distance, leaving Sufiyan behind as if he had done something to him, he did not understand what was wrong with him, he just knew that he had been ignoring him since they came back from Al-Samash, leaving sufiyan in a turmoil.
Then, as if he had made up his mind, Sufiyan turned towards his house, the smile on his face was gone as he stopped his way inside and went straight to his room upstairs, he closed the curtains in his room and turned off the light, turning the room in a dark cell just like Al-samash.
As the surroundings turned dark, the air in the room shifted in the centre, getting together in front of Sufiyan as a pair of green and yellow eyes, stared right into his.
"What happened in Al-samash", Sufiyan asked in an unpleasant voice.
"What, everything that had to happen, didn't I already told you everything?", the voice answered as the eyes in front of him looked bored.
"I mean,.what did you do to Fannah, he has been avoiding me ever since". Sufiyan asked back as he clenched his hands into fists.
"I didn't do anything, I saved you from that place and instead of thanking me you keep accusing me like I turned the hell upside down, everything I did was for you, remember that". The voice said as the eyes looked around the room, like they didn't want to be here.
"I am not fool, I know why you did everything, just tell me what's wrong with him?". Sufiyan asked again, not taking no for an answer as his forehead had visible creases now.
"How would I know what's wrong with him, it's not like I live inside him, moreover he is getting married, he might not want to see the person who can endanger him and his sweet married life, because this person loves between life and death everyday". The voice said, making Sufiyan angrier.
But before he could do anything, the air in the room swept the curtains open and the eyes disappeared, leaving sufiyan alone, frustrated and angry, he kicked the chair in front of him.
"I don't care, he can do whatever he wants". Sufiyan screamed as he kicked the air and lay in his bed, clutching his hair.
Sufiyan didn't know when he fell asleep but when he woke up it was already late in the evening, he freshened up in the bathroom and went to his library, the books that were supposed to be on the shelves were lying on the floor in a circle, the AC was on thirty-seven degree celcius and the chairs were lying upside down, Sufiyan shook his head as he walked past the books.
"You better get this mess cleaned up within 20 minutes", he said in the empty air as he made his way to his desk which seemed to be farther then last time and started reading the book from where he had left earlier on.
The room was so cold that Sufiyan started freezing as soon as he sat down and his lips started turning blue, forcing him to get a blanket from the nearby couch and wrapped it around himself, when he heard a knock.
Sufiyan looked at the door that was half a kilometre away from him, but no one came inside, but a second knock was heard.
"Not Faiza". Sufiyan said as he got up from his place, the blanket still wrapped around him as he walked to the wall on his left and pulled the knob and the wall moved, revealing a man in red clothes standing over the threshold, his masked face only showing the hollow eyes sockets as he bowed.
"What's wrong?" ,Sufiyan asked as he held the knob in his hands, feeling a little warmer from the air of the other side.
"The news came, The kingdom of Al-samash has completely turned into ashes, everyone is looking for you and the other person involved, it's best to lay low with the other person, attack can be made any moment these days". The man informed breathlessly.
"When have you ever seen me flaundering around, I am always laying low and I don't care for him, he can go to hell for all I care". Sufiyan replied as his brows furrowed together.
"As you wish". The man said and vanished in the air, as Sufiyan pushed the wall to its place again.
Sufiyan went back to his chair and started reading again, but he could not concentrate on it anymore as he thoughts went back to Fannah again and again, his running away at Raid's home, turning the car when he saw Sufiyan and a few more incidents, he could not make anything of it,he laid back in his chair and took a deep breath.
"Maybe he does hate me after all". Sufiyan sighed as he closed his eyes, remembering everything that had happened from the day he had met Fannah, the sweet smile of the boy had turned anguished and his small brainless chatters now seemed to be a distant dream, Sufiyan could still hear his loud laughter when he closed his eyes and those sparkling brown eyes that shined more then ever with every single glance was now gone.
Sufiyan stood up from his place and walked to the door to get out of the library when he saw that the books were now messier then before and the chairs still lay upside down.
"This is the last warning for you, get your mess together or get out of here". Sufiyan scolded before opening the door and walking down to the kitchen, where Faiza was sitting.
"Faiza, come here". Sufiyan called from the door while clutching the curtain in both his hands.
"What's wrong?", she asked as she walked towards her brother who took her out in the lawn.
"Do you have Fannah's number?"Sufiyan asked nervously as he jabbed at his fingers.
"Why?" Faiza asked back in confusion.
"I want to talk to him". Sufiyan replied in a tentative voice.
"Okay, but I don't have it, let me get it from Abu's phone". Faiza said as she ran inside the house to see if her father was still there.
After half an hour or so, she finally returned to Sufiyan who was waiting for her in his room, sitting on the bed while talking to himself hysterically.
"Did you take your medicine?" Faiza asked as she him panicking.
"Yes, I did" Sufiyan answered without sparing her a glance as he looked at her phone.
"I got it", she said as she called the top number on her contact list and gave the phone to Sufiyan.
"No,tall to him first". Sufiyan said pushing the phone back to her.
"What should I say?, you said you wanted to talk". She said pushing it back to her brother, but he pushed it back to her but before she could shove it back to Sufiyan, the call connected.
"Hello". Fannah called, pushing Faiza to finally talk herself.
"Hello, it's me Faiza, Sufiy..." Faiza was yet to complete her sentence when Fannah cut her off, his heart going at a lightening speed.
"I know, is everything okay, why did you call this late in the evening?" Fannah asked, sitting straight in his bed.
Faiza shoved the phone to Sufiyan who pushed it back instantly.
"Don't,talk to him yourself", Sufiyan said annoyed as he handed back the phone to her.
"Why should I talk to him?"
"No, I don't know how to talk on a phone".
"You do it".
"You do it".
Fannah could hear the whispers from the other side and something falling and breaking, with every passing second he felt like he was going to faint so he finally called again.
"Hello", he said trying to sound calm and normal, for a few minutes there was no sound, no whisper, just deep silence and then it came crashing towards him like a plane.
"Hello". A sweet yet heartbreaking voice came from the other end of the line, making Fannah a bit breathless.
"Sufiyan". Fannah called, as if to make sure he had not completly gone insane to the point of hellucinating Sufiyan's voice.
"Hmm, I wanted to talk to you". Sufiyan answered in a low voice as if afraid someone will hear him.
"Go on". Fannah said, clutching his bedsheets as he tried to take a deep breath, but nothing came, the line went silent again.
After a few minutes Sufiyan spoke again but he was not addressing him.
"Go and get me a glass of water". Sufiyan said to his sister who made a face.
"Just give it back to me when you are done and yeah, that get out is too obvious". She said as she closed the door behind her.
Fannah was ready to reject whatever Sufiyan had to say but again the line went silent for god knows how long, just lingering between them was the silence like everything was being said without saying anything, Fannah took a sip of his water as he waited for Sufiyan to continue, as he tried to ignore the lurching feeling in his heart.
"Reject him, reject whatever he says, just answer no". Fannah reminded himself when Sufiyan finally spoke up.
"Come here, I have to talk to you about something important", Sufiyan said.
"Say no to him, No" . Fannah thought before clearing his throat.
"It's a no, okay", he reassured himself before saying.
"Why?" He asked biting his tongue as soon as the words came out.
"I will tell you here, it's important". Sufiyan answered in a tense voice.
"Okay, I will come tomorrow". Fannah said before slapping himself in the face.
