The entire inn seems to hum with sweet melodies. Fresh flowers present themselves in vases. I didn't notice them on the way to our suite. Every love song suddenly plays in my mind. All the staff members, mostly fauns, grin at me.
They KNOW.
Maybe this place has an energy that people tune into, especially magical creatures. Or maybe Daji spilled the beans, just like she nearly did when we met her downstairs. I don't care, frankly. Today, nothing bothers me. I just got engaged, and I've inherited the playground of the gods. This is like the Berkshires. The Hamptons. The French Riviera. Monaco. Turks and Caicos. Bali. Palm Springs.
"Why 'The Wendigo Inn'?" I ask.
Adella wrinkles her nose. "I wondered that, too. A Wendigo is a scary monster--"
As she says this, we turn a corner and find ourselves face to face with a hairy chest. But the rest of the creature we've encountered is all bone. A bleached white skull and an eerie grin make me suddenly feel about six years old.
