While I had a fairly vast amount of high end resources from my time scaving the ships on Eden six using them to create a vehicle was not a great idea. Sure I could since I just needed to find some blueprints off the echonet but roaming about Pandora on something that was too shiny drew the wrong sort of attention. Instead I was in the process of repurposing the broke down runner in town into a smaller single person vehicle. The engine, tires, guns and battery of the thing to be specific.-
"Ah man if you pull this off it's gonna be SWEET! You gotta let me have one of these things!" Scooter said excitedly over my echo after I had told him what I was doing.
"Don't get too excited now. I still have to put the thing together." I said with a chuckle.
The idea was both simple and difficult at the same time, I was making a motorcycle of sorts. This meant I needed to switch the engines layout around a bit to put all it's power into a single wheel instead of two all while balancing the torque so the force didn't yeet the engine off it's mounting since the wheel could only spin so fast.-
My new [Mechanical engineering expertise] trait was super useful here. Once I integrated the five degraded copies of it they fused naturally to create the undegraded but lowest version of it that I was very happy with despite this. Thanks to this new trait I had an almost instinctual understanding of what I was doing that in addition to the knowledge I had from my schooling and what little remain of my skills from Earth made creating this vehicle a little tricky but doable.-
I first disassembled the entire motor from the runner and sent it through the deconstructor to be reverted to it's base elements. I then swapped out the materials of the parts I could for the better ones I had and had my maker thingy spit out brand spanking new parts that I assembled like rather confusing legos. The reason for all this work was that the original engine was more or less made of scrap and thus not nearly as good as if it had been made with fresh parts. I of course converted the two wheel drive aspect of it to a single wheel while rewiring and hosing the engine to keep it from overheating or straight up exploding.-
With the engine done I designed a body for the vehicle that was quite similar to the runners in that it had independent shocks on both tires for smooth nearly all terrain driving. I was also a little cheeky and added special Hydraulics to allow the bike to "jump". The frame of the bike was quite bulky for a motorbike with an almost tanky quality to it. The large thick durable runner tires only reinforced this feeling. In the center of the frame I set the handles, feet pedals and guns with the engine mounted behind the seat.-
The seat and feet pedals were mounted straight to the frame but the guns were a nifty little thing I set up on special automated omnidirectional targeting stands on either of my sides on the outside of the side armor plating of the vehicle because anyone shooting at a motorcycle knows to aim for the exposed rider. Naturally I wasn't a fucking imbecile and covered this flaw in my design even if it slowed the vehicle down a bit from the weight.-
I sorta copied Roland's Scorpio turret for the guns so that all I had to do was designate the targets and the turrets fucked them up for me all on their own letting me focus on driving. When I finally finished the vehicle I took it for a test drive after filling the fuel tank up. The engine purred as I revved it up and with little fanfare took off from the road outside Fyrestone. It was fast as fuck as I accelerated to nearly seventy in about five seconds and that was not even close to top speed. I couldn't really reach top speed either as the roads curved too much which forced me to slow down.-
"So how'd it go?" Lil asked as I got out of the vehicle.
"Give it a go yourself, it's bitchin." I said with a huge grin.
"I call dibs!" Brick said as he stuffed himself into the seat before Lil could even reply to me and cranked the engine up before tearing off down the road.
"Hope he doesn't break it." Mordy said worriedly.
It was no secret that Brick was the hardest on the vehicles when he drove as he pushed them for all they were worth and went out of his way to hit shit with them.-
About ten minutes later Brick came to a halt outside the town with a huge grin on his face and some noticeable bloodstains on the bike. Being able to withstand Brick level abuse everyone was much more trusting of the vehicle that I decided to name the Badger due to it's compact but durable form. Much like the beast whose name I chose for this creation of mine it's attack power was nothing special but it's durability was absolutely insane for what it was. It was more or less a fast moving miniature tank that feared no enemies, Badger was a fitting name.-
Everyone got a turn to drive the thing before I effectively told them to fuck off since it's mine. While I don't mind sharing I specifically made the Badger for my own convenience since they had seats in the runners and I didn't. I stored the vehicle in my house when I wasn't using it without any issue at all thanks to how big the inside of the place was. Once the Badger was done I finally kicked back to relax as we waited for word that we could head out to the Dahl headlands.-
During this period I mostly spent my time teaching Ladon since it was quite important. The big lizard took to my lessons like a sponge to water and by the time the go ahead was given to us by Helena pierce it had already been house trained and taught not to eat random people but only those I said or those that shot at it. To little fucking surprise Lil showered the giant carnivore in affection once I said she wasn't going to get eaten for her troubles.-
"Word just got in from Pierce, you're good to go." Zed said while I was playing fetch the Skag with Ladon and a Skag that "volunteered".
I dragged the Badger out of my house and put Ladon up before hitting the gas. A few bandits and Skags got in my way as I went down the road to the blockaded path to the Dahl headlands but they met less than good endings, the lifeforce was nice though. As I got closer a familiar voice came from my echo unit.-
"So, you think the Vault is real, eh? Hmmm.... everyone is talking about it. This is the biggest thing that's happened here in a long time. Think of the visitors we will have! Listen, if you find it what's inside could be worth a fortune. But only if you get the right partner to help you sell it. So... partners?" Marcus said before hanging up.
'I have the entirety of Jakobs behind me, if I wanted to sell whatever's in the Vault I have a better option than this dude.' I thought with a scoff.
Arriving at the gate that had a dark green Claptrap unit standing near the console I got out of my bike and waited for the others to also get here.
I heard them long before they actually arrived as they shot something with the rocket turrets while pushing their runners to the limit to catch up. The two runners rounded the corners and thankfully braked in time rather than crashed into my Badger and everyone piled out to go talk to the Claptrap.
The funny robot raised and lowered it's arms while speaking sternly. "Downloading and analyzing your DNA record... Human status confirmed! Access to the Dahl headland is granted. Please stand by while I activate the gate for you." it said before going to the console and punching in a code. "You are now free to enter the Dahl headland! Please enjoy your relaxing stay. Interesting fact! Based on your current stress patterns I calculate a ninety four point three percent chance that you will encounter an unfortunate death experience." the bot said in a chipper tone.
