Chapter 1 - The Enigma of Blackthorn Academy

LILY'S P.O.V

I sat at the breakfast table, surrounded by my family's warmth and laughter. My mom was busy making pancakes while my dad read the newspaper. The aroma of fresh coffee filled the air. However I couldn't focus on my breakfast. I kept glancing out the window, my mind filled with curiosity and excitement.

The knock on the door interrupted the peaceful morning, causing me to jump in surprise. My father got up to answer the door, and when he returned to the breakfast table, he had a small black envelope in his hand.

As my dad returned to the table and set the envelope down, I couldn't help but notice the letter "B" on the front. I curiously asked, "Oh, what's that? Look there's a letter B on the envelope!" I chuckled, my intrigue growing.

My mother glanced at it curiously and said, "Probably just another letter. Let me take a look..." She opened the envelope and began to read the contents, pausing as she saw the picture of a school. "Blackthorn Academy," she muttered, intrigued.

As my mother read the letter, I couldn't contain my curiosity any longer. I stood up and went around the table to my mother, peering over her shoulder to get a closer look. My eyes widened as I saw the same "B" symbol at the top of the school in the picture.

I exclaimed, "Wow, the B must stand for Blackthorn!" I leaned in closer to examine the school picture. "I've never heard of this place before. It looks really intriguing."

I turned to my parents with a hopeful expression on my face. "Please, can I go to this school? I've never seen anything like it!"

My parents exchanged glances, unsure of what to say. My mother spoke up, "Well, it does look like a very unique school, but we need to think about the logistics, honey."

My excitement faded, replaced by a small frown as I nodded in understanding. "I know, I know," I mumbled, feeling a little dejected. "There's a lot to consider."

My mother smiled gently, patting my shoulder. "Don't worry, sweetheart. Your father and I will discuss it and get back to you, okay?"

I nodded silently, still feeling a pang of disappointment. I knew that my parents would consider my plea, but I also knew that it wouldn't be an easy decision.

I quietly made my way to the living room doorway, pressing myself against the wall so that I could listen to my parents' conversation without being seen.

My mother's voice carried through the room, laced with concern. "I don't have a good feeling about this school, John. It just seems so... Dangerous."

I felt my heart sink as I heard my mother's words. I desperately wanted to go to the school, and my hopes were quickly diminishing.

I strained to hear my father's response.

My father spoke up, his tone a mix of reassurance and understanding. "I know you're worried, darling, but let's give it a chance. Our daughter is already in her first year of senior high school, and she deserves this opportunity."

My heart skipped a beat as I heard my father's supportive words. I silently held my breath, hoping that my mother would be persuaded.

My mother's voice trembled with worry as she replied, "I can't shake this nagging feeling of anxiety, dear. I'm worried that something could happen to her. It's just a feeling I have."

I clutched my chest, hoping that my father would reassure my mother even further.

The mother sighed, her voice now more gentle. "You know what, you're right. Maybe I'm just having a hard time accepting that our little girl is growing up so fast. It's all happening so suddenly."

I felt a stab of empathy for my mother's sentiment, although I was still hoping that the conversation would turn in my favor.

My mother's voice became firmer as she said, "Alright, since the academy is free, I'll allow her to go to the academy."

A wave of relief washed over me as I heard my mother's decision. I silently pumped my fist in triumph, but I knew better than to let my excitement show just yet.

I froze in place as my mother's voice suddenly broke the silence.

"I know you're there, Lily," my mother said, a hint of amusement in her tone.

My face turned crimson as I realized I had been caught eavesdropping. I sheepishly stepped out from behind the wall, sheepishly meeting my mother's gaze.

My mother approached me with a warm smile and wrapped me in a tight embrace.

"My little girl has grown up," my mother said affectionately, her voice filled with a mixture of pride and melancholy. She caressed my cheek tenderly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "It feels like just yesterday, you were a small child, running around the house, and now look at you... "

My mother kept her arm around my shoulders and spoke with a hint of seriousness in her voice.

"Now, sweetheart, there's something I want to talk to you about. Remember, you're going to a school full of young men and women, and chances are, you'll find yourself attracted to someone."

My cheeks flushed slightly as I nodded, listening intently to my mother's words.

My mother continued, "There will be moments of excitement and romance, but remember to be smart about your decisions. You're young, and it's normal to feel a range of emotions, but don't let those emotions overpower your judgment. Take your time, be careful, and prioritize your studies."

I nodded again, absorbing my mother's advice. I knew my mother wanted the best for me, and I respected her words of wisdom.

My mother took a deep breath before adding one last thought. "And one more thing, sweetheart. Don't forget to trust your instincts. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, or if something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it. Trust yourself and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it."

I smiled at my mother, appreciating my mother's concern and wise words.

My voice wavered with emotion as I said, "Mom, dad... I love you..."

My parents exchanged smiles, filled with love and affection for their daughter.

"We love you too," they replied in unison, wrapping their arms around me tightly, creating a warm, loving embrace.

—the next day—

The next day dawned bright and warm. I woke up early, filled with excitement and a hint of trepidation. My parents were busy with their work, so I decided to venture to the academy on my own.

I dressed in my favorite outfit, packed my backpack with school supplies, and took a deep breath before heading out the door. The journey to the academy was filled with anticipation as I imagined the possibilities that lay ahead.

As I stepped through the threshold of the school buildings, I found myself surrounded by shadows. The once-bright exterior of the buildings was now concealed in darkness, making me feel a slight shiver run down my spine. The silence that enveloped me seemed almost ominous, and the shadows played tricks on my eyes, casting eerie shapes that only heightened my sense of unease.

My heart skipped a beat as a deep voice interrupted the silence, jolting me out of my thoughts. "Hello, new student," it said.

I turned around to see a tall supervisor clad in a suit standing before me, his expression solemn and his gaze steady. I quickly composed myself and replied, "Hi, sir. I'm here to be enrolled in the academy."

The supervisor nodded in acknowledgment, his eyes sizing me up.

"Ah, yes," he responded, his tone laced with a hint of formality. "You're the new student we've been expecting. Welcome to Blackthorn Academy."

He motioned for me to follow him into the main building.

I felt a mix of excitement and anticipation as I followed the supervisor into the main building. The dimly lit hallway was a stark contrast to the sunny day outside, creating an aura of mystery and intrigue. The footsteps of my shoes and the supervisor echoed through the quiet space, adding to the suspenseful atmosphere.

Lost in my thoughts, I was so preoccupied with the strange symbols that I failed to notice the supervisor had stopped walking. I accidentally bumped into his back, causing me to stumble.

"Oh, sorry!" I exclaimed, quickly steadying myself. "I-I didn't see you had stopped."

The supervisor nodded with a smile, his expression conveying understanding.

"No worries," he replied, his voice smooth and calm. "I should have alerted you before stopping. It's a bit confusing to navigate these old halls."

His charming aura became even more apparent as he spoke, his easy-going manner instantly putting me at ease.

The supervisor gracefully opened the door for me, gesturing for me to enter.

"After you," he said, his smile widening. "The principal is waiting for you in his office."

I stepped inside the room and my eyes widened at the sight before me. The principal's office was breathtaking. It was elegant, with tall arched windows, polished wooden desks, and a warm but formal ambiance.

I halted in my tracks upon seeing the principal, a look of surprise crossing my face. The principal, a distinguished figure with an air of authority, stood up as I entered.

He addressed me with a pleasant smile, "Ms. Smith! If I recall correctly, we sent you an envelope, is that correct?"

I nodded, silently confirming his question.

The principal continued, his gaze steady and warm. "Excellent. You must have many questions about our academy, but let me assure you, everything will be explained in due time. Please, have a seat." He gestured towards a chair in front of his desk.

I sat down in the chair, my heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nerves. The principal exuded an aura of confidence and reassurance, but there was also a hint of mystery behind his words.

"Now, Ms. Smith," he began, folding his hands together on the desk. "I presume you are here to be enrolled in our academy?"

I nodded again, my voice betraying a hint of nervousness.

"Yes, sir," I responded, my voice soft but steady. "I received the envelope and I'd like to be enrolled in the academy."

The principal's smile widened as he nodded, seemingly pleased with my response. "Very well," he said. "You have made an excellent choice. Blackthorn Academy is renowned for its unique programs and exceptional students."

He leaned back in his chair, his gaze piercing through me. "But before we proceed, I have a few questions for you."

My heart quickened as the principal's gaze bored into mine. I had anticipated questions, but I wasn't sure what to expect.

"Of course, sir," I replied, my voice slightly shaky. "Ask away."

The principal leaned forward, his eyes studying me intently. "First, I must inquire about your academic background. What is your current educational level?" he asked, his voice firm but polite.

I felt a pang of anxiety but took a deep breath to steady my nerves.

"I'm currently in my senior year of high school," I responded, attempting to keep my voice clear and confident. "I've maintained good grades and I'm on track to graduate with honors."

The principal nodded approvingly, clearly impressed by my answer. "Impressive," he remarked, his tone betraying a hint of approval. "Your academic achievements show that you are more than capable of handling the challenges of our curriculum."

—FEW HOURS LATER—

After the enrollment process was complete and I was officially part of the academy, my thoughts kept returning to the handsome and towering supervisor I had encountered earlier. His charming demeanor and the way he had escorted her through the halls were etched in my mind.

I couldn't help but wonder if I would see him again. There was something about his presence that had left a strong impression on me.

—MONDAY—

Monday arrived, signaling the start of the school week. I was filled with a mix of excitement and nerves as it was my first day at Blackthorn Academy.

I woke up early, dressed in my new school uniform, and headed to the academy, my heart pounding with anticipation.

My eyes widened with awe as I stepped into the Blackthorn Academy campus. The place was teeming with students, all donned in their respective uniforms. The girls' uniforms were a deep, regal purple, while the boys donned crisp black uniforms.

I took in the sight, my mind racing with thoughts. "Wow," I muttered, my voice barely a whisper. "This is incredible."

As I walked through the crowd of students, I couldn't help but feel a bit out of place. Everyone around me was dressed in the standard uniforms, and my colorful shirt and pants clearly stood out among the sea of black and purple.

Several students couldn't help but cast glances my way, eyeing my attire with curiosity and maybe even a hint of judgement. Gosh I felt like I'm being surrounded by emos.

Some of the girls whispered to each other, their voices barely audible as I passed by. "Who is she? Why is she wearing different clothes?" one of them muttered.

"Maybe she's a new student," another replied. "But why does she look... so different?"

The boys also seemed to take notice, a few of them raising their eyebrows in surprise. "Check out that girl," one of them muttered to his friend, a hint of intrigue in his voice. "She definitely doesn't blend in, does she?"

The chattering of students came to an abrupt halt as the handsome supervisor suddenly appeared. The crowd parted, creating a path for him to stride through.

Everyone immediately straightened up and stood in line, their eyes averted and their demeanor serious. It was obvious that the supervisor commanded respect and authority.

As the supervisor approached, his gaze flickered to me, and his smile widened. He noticed me standing there with my colorful clothes, and his eyes held a hint of recognition.

I couldn't help but feel my heart skip a beat as the supervisor smiled at me. There was something about that smile that made me insides flutter, and it caught me off guard. Gosh I need to stop this feelings...

The supervisor walked closer towards me, his steps measured and confident. "Good morning, Miss," he greeted, his voice smooth and velvety. "I see you're the talk of the day."

I blushed slightly, feeling self-conscious about the attention my unique attire had drawn. "Um, I guess so," I replied, a nervous laugh escaping my lips. "I didn't expect this much attention just because of what I'm wearing."

The supervisor chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well, you certainly stand out," he admitted, his tone friendly. "But that's not a bad thing. It shows you're not afraid to be yourself, and that's admirable."

I felt a warmth spread through my chest at his words. The fact that he saw me individuality as a positive trait made me feel seen and appreciated. I offered him a shy smile, my heart beating just a bit faster.

I was just about to go to my class when I saw a boy with hoodie went inside the room and I was curious so I just as I was about to follow the boy who had entered the room, the supervisor's voice pierced through the air, stopping me in my tracks.

"Where are you going?" he repeated, his tone firm but not unkind.

I turned towards the supervisor, my eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "I, um... I was just curious about that room," I replied, pointing towards the room where the boy had gone.

The supervisor followed my gaze to the room and shook his head, a hint of seriousness in his expression. "I wouldn't advise you to go in there," he cautioned. "That room is off-limits, especially on your first day."

My brow furrowed as I glanced back at the door, my curiosity only growing stronger. "Why is it off-limits?" I asked, my voice laced with a hint of disappointment.

The supervisor let out a sigh, his eyes flickering from the room back to my face. "Let's just say it's reserved for special students with specific needs," he explained, his tone guarded. "It's best to stay away and focus on your own classes for now."

I wanted to ask more questions, but the look in the supervisor's eyes told it was better not to press the matter. I reluctantly nodded, realizing that some things weren't meant to be pried into.

"Alright, then," I finally said, my eyes lingering on the closed door one last time before turning away. "I'll just head to my own class, then."

The supervisor gave me a nod in acknowledgment, his expression softening slightly. "Yes, please go to your assigned classroom," he said, a hint of concern in his tone. "Stick to your schedule and don't wander off by yourself, especially to that room. Understand?"

"Yes, I understand," I replied, my voice filled with a mixture of disappointment and determination. "I'll head to my classroom now. Thanks for letting me know."

As I walked away from the supervisor and made my way towards my assigned classroom, my mind was abuzz with questions. The closed door to that mysterious room had sparked a burning curiosity within me, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake it off.

My thoughts kept going back to the door, wondering what secrets it held and why it was off-limits.
