"What are these? Werewolves?! Vampires?!" In the moonlight, the man barely saw the forms of the werewolf and vampire. His pupils contracted sharply. If it were any other kind of supernatural creature, the man might have had difficulty recognizing them, but werewolves and vampires were too famous in Western society to be mistaken for anything else.
However, recognizing the identities of the werewolf and vampire made the man's heart sink. What was initially just a gang conflict for him and his family had now escalated into a supernatural event. He had almost resolved the crisis here, with only one gang member left, and he didn't think he would lose in a one-on-one fight, even though his gun was out of bullets. The gang member was just as nervous as he was, and that was his opportunity!
But now, before he could deal with the last gang member, he was dragged into a supernatural confrontation. It wasn't just that his gun was out of bullets; even if it were full, even if he had an automatic rifle, he wasn't confident he could handle a vampire and a werewolf!
After several supernatural events on Earth and the Avengers becoming well-known and accepted by the public, everyone understood that supernatural powers existed, and ordinary people couldn't compete with them.
"No, I can't give up. Little Frank must not be harmed! These two legendary enemies seem to be in a standoff. I must seize this opportunity, at least to attract the attention of these two monsters and let little Frank escape!" The man quickly adjusted his mindset and made a decision after a brief shock.
"What? Still hiding? Or do you think you can escape under our watchful eyes?" the werewolf said coldly, glaring in the direction of the gang member who hadn't come out to explain himself, expressing his dissatisfaction.
Not only was the werewolf displeased, but the vampire also looked grimly in the gang member's direction. The vampire seemed to think that by exposing his identity while serving him, the gang member had forced him into an early confrontation with the werewolf, and now trying to escape was another act of betrayal!
As the vampire looked at the gang member, the gang member still harbored a sliver of hope and didn't come forward, knowing that if he did, he would be dead.
With a buzzing sound, black and red energy burst from the vampire, transforming into countless small bats that swooped into the darkness, dragging the gang member out into the open.
"No! Don't kill me!" The gang member lost control of his body, floating in the air, panicking as he couldn't break free from the bats surrounding him.
"Hmph! Since when do you have the right to judge my people?" The werewolf's eyes flashed with a gleam, but it quickly turned into anger. He slashed with his claws, and a black claw mark appeared in the air, dispersing the bats and causing the gang member to fall to the ground.
"Your people? From the moment he started working for me, he was mine!" The vampire squinted at the werewolf with a dissatisfied look but didn't make a move. He glanced at the gang member on the ground and said in a deep voice.
"Then let him say whose side he's on!" The werewolf waved his claws at the gang member struggling to get up, and a shadow of a wild wolf lunged at the gang member, tearing at his body.
At the same time, more bats emerged from the vampire's body, also attacking the gang member, ripping at his flesh.
"Ahhhhhh!!!"
The gang member's screams echoed in the night, a testament to the fate of traitors. In just a short time, the gang member's body was covered in bloody wounds, but strangely, he wasn't dead despite the severe injuries.
"Ugh~" As the gang member's body became a bloody mess, little Frank, hiding in the tree, couldn't hold back his disgust. Despite the dim light, he saw enough to make him nauseous. The events were too much for a child to bear, and he vomited.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
As little Frank's retching sound echoed, two gunshots rang out in the darkness. Two deadly bullets aimed for the heads of the vampire and werewolf. The man didn't know if bullets could harm these supernatural beings, but a headshot was the best he could do, as he wasn't sure if their hearts were vulnerable.
The vampire and werewolf didn't react to the incoming bullets; their bodies seemed to move, yet not visibly. In the end, the bullets missed their targets, and the vampire and werewolf remained unscathed.
"You finally picked up two guns after all this time, so your gun was out of bullets before, right?" The vampire looked at the man with a slight smirk. "You and your son have some value, being outsiders. So tell us whose side this guy was really on. If you satisfy me, I can grant you great power, even immortality. But if you don't, your fate will be worse than his."
"Oh, and there are two women related to you just outside the woods. Perhaps I should bring them here so your family can be together?"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
As soon as the vampire finished speaking, the man fired again, this time all shots aimed at the vampire, sealing off all possible escape routes. He didn't see how the vampire dodged before, but he knew the vampire didn't want to get hit, which was his only chance.
However, the next moment left the man in despair as none of the bullets hit the vampire. He still couldn't see how the vampire evaded them.
The gap between the supernatural world and the real world was immense. This gap wasn't just in terms of power but also in understanding. The vampire easily knew how guns worked, but the man had no idea what the vampire's abilities were. He couldn't rely on folklore and movies, and the park offered no silver bullets, crosses, garlic, or ultraviolet light to use against the vampire.
"You really aren't likable, always threatening others. How can you get the right answers that way? Or do you already know he's my man and can only get what you want through threats?" The werewolf chuckled, looking at the bullets in the tree behind him, then turned to the man.
"Come on, I'm much more reasonable than this bat. Just tell me, and if I'm satisfied, I won't let the bat hurt you…"
"Could their conflict be my chance?" The man looked at the vampire and werewolf in silence, unsure of what to do. In almost every movie, werewolves and vampires were enemies. These two seemed ready to fight, which might be his only chance.
But how could he further provoke a conflict between the vampire and werewolf to create an opportunity for himself? The man was at a loss.
"They're toying with them!" Kara and Robert, watching from a distance, noticed something strange about the vampire and werewolf. Kara frowned, confused by their behavior.
"These two don't seem like enemies…" Robert nodded in agreement. "They seem to be teaming up to toy with them, having fun at their expense. The werewolf even smiled when the vampire pulled the gang member back with bats."
"So, what's their motive?" Kara was even more puzzled after hearing Robert's observation. She couldn't understand why vampires and werewolves would travel all this way just to play with Frank and his father or even the gang member.
Just then, the vampire seemed to get angry, releasing a terrifying power that made the man's eyes light up. He thought the werewolf's words had enraged the vampire and believed he saw an opportunity.
A large swarm of bats flew from the vampire's body, but they didn't attack the man or Frank or even the werewolf. Instead, they flew towards the edge of the woods.
"No!!!" In an instant, the man realized what the vampire intended to do. He was going to carry out his threat and bring the man's wife and daughter here!
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
Gunshots rang out as the man fired all his bullets at the bats. He hit several, but the number of bats was overwhelming, and his bullets were running out.
When the man's bullets ran out and the bats weren't completely killed, the werewolf seemed to wake up. He slashed at some bats, but more bats still flew out of the woods.
Seeing the werewolf attack gave the man a glimmer of hope, but when he saw the bats still flying out, he despaired again.
Without hesitation, the man ran towards his wife and daughter, hoping to reach them before the bats did. He couldn't bear to see them end up like the gang member, who was still lying on the ground, barely alive and horribly mutilated.
Not just the man, but little Frank also ran towards his family, despite his fear, his legs trembling but determined to reach them.
Both Frank and his father seemed to forget the danger of turning their backs on the vampire and werewolf, who watched them like predators eyeing their prey.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I couldn't stop all those nasty bats. But don't worry, I've sent my wolves. They'll… uh… save your family!" The werewolf smiled slightly and waved at the retreating figures of Frank and his father. Wolves sprang out, running after them, though it was unclear if they were chasing Frank and his father or heading towards their family.
Hearing the wolves' footsteps getting closer, Frank and his father felt their backs prickle with fear, especially little Frank, whose legs were already weak. He felt like he couldn't run anymore.
In his daze, little Frank could even hear the wolves' breathing behind him, but he didn't cry out. Even as death approached, he didn't want to distract
his father, who might still save his mother and sister.
If his father could save them before the bats arrived, it seemed worth it, even if Frank slowed the wolves down. After all, tonight's tragedy started because of his curiosity...
"Good kid," said a voice in little Frank's ear just as he felt a wolf's claw tear at his clothes.
