Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: It Seems Like I Got Married

At the Civil Affairs Bureau in Capital Town, Maxwell Peary stood at the Grand Gate Entrance, his brow furrowed. He had never anticipated setting foot in such a ghastly place.

"Hurry, Uncle, let's get to the registration! Quickly, quickly..."

Before Maxwell Peary could change his mind, Nia Mitchell forcefully dragged him towards the Civil Affairs Bureau, her little bottom sticking out from the effort.

「Twenty minutes later.」

Nia Mitchell came bouncing out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, holding Maxwell Peary's hand. The air seems different today, so refreshing!

She looked at the marriage certificate in her hand. Spouse: Maxwell Peary.

Nia Mitchell glanced at the man beside her, her small frame enveloped by his powerful aura.

Suddenly, Maxwell Peary snatched the marriage certificate from her hand.

"You're so scatterbrained. It's best if I keep something this important safe."

Maxwell Peary bent down to her eye level, his every breath brushing against her cheeks. Nia Mitchell awkwardly lowered her head in embarrassment.

"Uncle Peary, I... uhm."

His cool lips touched hers, and Nia Mitchell's mind went blank. Was I just taken advantage of?

No, no, we're registered now, so it doesn't count as being taken advantage of.

"What were you going to say?"

Maxwell Peary released her lips. Seeing her flushed cheeks, he was tempted to tease her again but was abruptly interrupted by his phone ringing.

"Hold on for a moment."

Maxwell Peary pulled out his phone and walked a couple of steps away to answer it.

Nia Mitchell stood there, bored, watching Maxwell Peary. His whole aura changed the moment he answered the phone.

Those slightly furrowed brows, tightly pressed lips, and deep eyes... This Maxwell Peary felt unfamiliar and distant, keeping everyone at arm's length.

Soon after, Maxwell Peary, his imposing aura returning, walked back to her.

"I remember you quit your job. My Company is short a secretary. Are you interested?"

A secretarial vacancy?

Nia Mitchell's eyes widened. What's this all about? Did that call that made his expression change mean an Employee resigned?

Nia Mitchell blinked her watery eyes. She did have a job before, but the Hampton Family considered it shameful and made her resign.

"Okay," Nia Mitchell replied, her smile radiant. Only someone who has looked for a job can truly understand how difficult it is to find one.

Maxwell Peary looked at her smile, his brow furrowing slightly. Suddenly, he felt a little reluctant for her to go out and work.

"You head back to the Royal Bay Villa first. There's an urgent matter at the Company I need to handle. I'll go with you to pick up your father at noon."

Maxwell Peary felt a little guilty. Today is our first day of marriage; I should be accompanying this little rabbit, Rabina Mitchell.

"Uncle Peary," she called out softly.

"Thank you. If you have something urgent, go ahead and take care of it. I'll be fine on my own."

Traffic in Capital Town flowed like a shuttle. Couples were everywhere near the Civil Affairs Bureau's Grand Gate Entrance. In his hurry to leave, Maxwell Peary could only hail a taxi for her.

"Call me when you get home. I've already saved my number in your phone."

Maxwell Peary reminded her awkwardly, the tips of his ears turning an unnatural shade of red. However, Nia Mitchell, now sitting in the taxi, didn't see it.

The taxi sped along the road, Nia Mitchell looking out at the bustling streets.

Remembering Maxwell Peary's parting words, her face couldn't help but flush. It seemed as if the unfamiliar, warm breath still lingered by her ear.

Suddenly, the ringing of her phone interrupted her reverie.

"Hello?"

"Nia, I'm waiting for you at the café where we first met. Can you come over?"

Nia Mitchell looked at her phone, the call already ended, her hands gradually tightening.

"Driver, please turn around. Take me to the Corner Café."
