"This is irreversible. You've come to an age where no responsible doctor would tell you that anything is treatable. But what I can say is that you should get a good rest and control the situation," said the doctor.
After seeing him off, the Cunningham family were the only ones left.
"Except Jackson and you, the rest of you should leave too." Deanna's voice sounded hoarse, as though she had been walking in the desert for so long without water.
Angelica and Joseph glanced at each other, then looked at Nidia. Before they could speak, Deanna sent them away again. "I'm a frail old lady. What can I possibly do to her?"
"Mom, we didn't mean it that way. We're leaving now," said Joseph. He glanced at Jackson and hinted at the latter to take care of Nidia.
Jackson nodded slightly. Although the expression on his face did not change and he did not speak, Joseph was relieved by this little gesture.
Finally, only Deanna, who was lying on the bed, Jackson, and Nidia were left in the room.
