Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: All the Wonder Fades from Her Eyes

"I'm really not drunk, help me up, I can still drink three more glasses." Ying Jing waved her small hand, shaking off the grip of Wen Fucheng who was holding her a little unsteadily.

She fumbled on the table for a long time but couldn't find the wine, not knowing that it had already been put away by Wen Fucheng.

"Oh, it's gone."

"Yeah, you can't drink anymore."

Ying Jing smacked her lips, looking a bit unsatisfied.

What a pity!

"If you want to drink, I'll let you drink next time."

"Next time? When will that be!" Ying Jing counted on her fingers with her flushed little face, but at the end, she couldn't even distinguish the numbers. "It's been so long... so long since I've seen you. I can't bear it. Wen Fucheng, do you know how much I can't bear it?" Not wanting to lose any minute or second spent with you.

The next moment she leaned on his shoulder, her eyes turning red.

Like a dumb child who lost their beloved toy, feeling extremely aggrieved.

He patiently stroked the girl's back again and again.

"Never again, I'll never be too far away from you." In this life, he desired the utmost certainty to protect her. "So, don't be foolish and push me away, don't push me a thousand miles away."

Ying Jing randomly wiped her tears.

Lost in her emotions, she didn't clearly hear what Wen Fucheng said.

But she tugged on his sleeve and insisted he repeat it.

Wen Fucheng leaned into her ear and whispered a few words, making Ying Jing very happy.

"Is what you said true?"

"When have I ever lied to you?"

"Then can I find you anytime, anywhere? No matter how busy you are, you'll still contact me."

...

Of course, you can.

Wen Fucheng carried Ying Jing out of the restaurant, and Zhang Yang, who had been waiting nearby, brought the car over.

After parking the car, he considerately opened the car door for his boss.

Wen Fucheng didn't put her down even after getting in the car, holding the girl in his arms on his lap.

Zhang Yang tactfully raised the partition.

Ying Jing lay comfortably in his arms.

The man played with her silky hair with his fingers.

The breath he exhaled caressed the skin on his neck, bringing a tingling itch.

Ying Jing slightly raised her head, her nose brushing past his chin.

Wen Fucheng lowered his eyes to look, his lips landing just beside her eyes.

If he didn't know which road to take, Zhang Yang definitely wouldn't interrupt his boss's intimate moment.

Where should Miss Ying be sent to?

"To the Ying family's main residence!"

The little drunkard returning to the villa would inevitably receive a scolding from Ying Zenan.

Wen Fucheng sent her back to the main residence, where her mother could also take care of her.

"See if you dare drink recklessly again next time."

He pressed a small red mark on Ying Jing's forehead. The girl's skin was fair, tender, and smooth, showing a mark with just a slight touch.

Wen Fucheng blew on it for her.

Unexpectedly, Ying Jing wrapped her arms around his neck, refusing to let go.

"Wen Fucheng, don't take me home, okay? I want to go with you."

"You can't."

The words of a drunken Ying Jing were clearly unreliable, and he knew this very well.

When she wakes up tomorrow, she won't remember a thing.

Zhang Yang parked the car near the old residence of the Ying family; however, the house was brightly lit, and several unfamiliar cars were parked at the entrance. "Boss, it seems the Ying family has guests."

The assistant turned off the car lights and went outside for a cigarette as an excuse.

The guest of the Ying family, Ye Qingyu, had specifically come to deliver an invitation. In a few days, it would be her grandfather's birthday.

The Ying family and the Ye family had always had a good relationship; a few years ago, they were even neighbors.

Later the Ye family moved to other cities for development and only returned in the past two years.

This unbroken connection was gradually becoming frequent again.

Moreover, the Ye family had always planned for a marriage alliance with the Ying family, so their visits naturally increased.

Before leaving, Ye Qingyu specifically asked about Ying Jing.

"She, she's been staying at her brother's place recently, avoiding me because I nag her, so she's hiding from me."

Not seeing Ying Jing made Ye Qingyu a bit disappointed. Since that awkward episode at Ying Zenan's birthday party, he had not been in contact with Ying Jing.

Ye Qingyu got in the car and left, brushing past Wen Fucheng, who parked not far away, not knowing that the person on his mind was so close to him for a moment.

Wen Fucheng, however, clearly saw him.

Ye Qingyu, it was him.

Ye Qingyu had secretly loved Ying Jing since childhood, and as he grew up, he wanted to use family connections to marry into the Ying family. The elders of the Ying family also thought highly of him. In the previous life, he was almost successful.

If not for Ying Jing's affection for Lu Zishu, insisting on being with Lu Zishu even disregarding her own safety, causing a public ruckus.

In the end, Ye Qingyu gave up on that idea and married another heiress from a family matching his status. After marriage, they played their own games, which was well-known in their circle. Historically, aristocratic alliances were seldom about true feelings. It's mostly for consolidating their interests.

Even after marriage, Ye Qingyu didn't give up on Ying Jing, occasionally spreading news about visiting her on set.

Thinking of his shamelessness, Wen Fucheng silently tightened his grip around Ying Jing's waist.

So many people were thinking about his little one.

After a cigarette, Zhang Yang returned, and Wen Fucheng changed his mind.

He took Ying Jing back to the hotel and opened a room next door, without shortchanging his princess even a little.

Lying on the soft big bed, Ying Jing comfortably rolled over a few times, burying her face in the covers.

Zhang Yang brought over the toiletries.

"Boss, are you going to remove Miss Ying's makeup?"

"Hmm, leave the stuff here. You worked hard today, go home and rest early."

Ying Jing had put on beautiful makeup to meet him, and now, being clingy, it had rubbed off a bit.

"Little kitty." He chuckled as he turned her over, pinching the girl's pretty cheeks, meticulously removing her makeup and washing her face.

Within a short while, Ying Jing's face was as smooth and tender as a peeled egg.

He sat beside her and watched for a few minutes before getting up to head to the bathroom, putting away all the bottles and jars.

The gushing tap water washed away the grease from his palms.

The warm sensation of her skin lingered, unfading.

He glanced down for a moment; behind him was a sound, and before he could turn around, a pair of soft, boneless small hands wrapped around his waist.

"Wen Fucheng, why are you so slow! I've been waiting for you for so long."

The person clinging to his back mumbled. After a few seconds of laughter, he asked her, "How long have you waited for me?"

"Ten years!" she answered softly.

He held the hands crossed at his waist, looking at their reflection in the mirror.

The affection could no longer be contained.

"Then I have waited a bit longer than you."

After all, he had lived a few extra years. He took care of everything for her, fulfilling her unaccomplished wishes.

And then he could no longer bear the solitude without her; in the few years after her departure, he didn't live alone either.

Ying Jing slept holding him, not even knowing when she returned to the bed.

After tucking her in, he turned and walked out of the room.

In the morning, he cleaned up the cigarette butts spread across the floor.

He bathed and changed into clean, fresh clothes.

Ying Jing rubbed her eyes as she walked out of the room, the moment she lowered her hands she saw the person standing on the balcony through her squinted eyes.

He leaned sideways against the railing, lowered his head flipping through the book in his hand.

A breeze of morning wind brushed past Ying Jing's eyes, stirring the book in his hands.

Wen Fucheng seemed to sense something, lifting his head.

Ying Jing had no other thoughts in her mind.

The flipping of pages under his fingers was just like her wildly beating heart.

His gaze took away all the amazement in her eyes.
