Simply put, the three Crystalline Dragon Eggs were influenced by the Swarm, underwent soul fusion, and transformed into a unified fused soul.
However, this fused soul remains immature, unaware of how to control the three bodies, and unable to hatch fully on its own—thus it resorted to seeking others to assist in piloting its two vacant bodies for incubation.
