Ezra's Office – Late Afternoon
Ezra stood by the floor to ceiling window in his private office, his suit jacket discarded over the back of the chair. The city stretched out before him, indifferent to the chaos of his life. But his mind wasn't on the skyline… it was on the woman now resting in his home.
Scarlett.
He had spent the last few days playing God and judge, cleaning up every mess that dared to touch her. But now that she was back under his roof, healing, safe… something inside him eased.
A knock on the door pulled him from his thoughts.
Robert stepped in. "Sir, everything's in order. Henry is continuing the background checks on Carly's associates. No further threats detected."
Ezra nodded once. "Good. You can go for the evening."
Robert hesitated, then added with a slight smile, "Scarlett asked if you'll be home for dinner."
That tugged something in Ezra's chest. He dismissed Robert with a nod, grabbed his jacket, and left the building.
