During this period, due to furious public sentiment or perhaps someone intentionally orchestrating the mood, the protesting crowd wantonly assaulted and looted shops belonging to the Three Major Groups and the Dick Family along their route.
Even though many of these shops were just franchisees, their employees and owners had never expected such an incident to occur in the Fifth District.
However, what was rather interesting was that, whether intentional or not, the marching crowd purposely avoided buildings officially managed by the Social Sequence, simply because those areas were guarded by security robots armed with live ammunition.
Among the onlookers, there were some voices of reason. They supported the march but not the senseless destruction.
But these voices were, after all, in the minority. Besides, protests inherently express the emotional act of public defiance; without smashing, looting, or destroying something, it always seemed to lack a certain flair.
