Ave Carlisle slept deeply until the ringing of her phone startled her awake. She got up to find that outside it was already dark. She grabbed her phone hastily to see a call from her sister Alicia.
"Hello."
"Oh, okay, okay, I'll be right back."
She hurried home, arriving just at seven, where her mother, sister, and Emma were all waiting for her.
Looking at the full table of dishes, Ave Carlisle said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, there was a surgery that delayed me today."
"Sis, look at those dark circles under your eyes. You didn't come home all night, weren't you up to no good?"
At these words, Ave Carlisle felt a bit uncomfortable and her face flushed.
The man had kept her up all night, and with surgery in the morning followed by an emergency, she was exhausted. How could she not have dark circles under her eyes? Ave Carlisle tapped her sister on the head with her chopsticks, saying, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
