Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Kitchen and Medical Room (Request for recommendations and favorites)

Chen Xin wasn't sure whether building a kitchen counted as improving survival conditions, but after improving them, he clearly felt the daily settlement of survival points increase.

Because after he upgraded the ventilation system, the survival points settled that night increased from 10 to 11.

The improvement in the ventilation system only increased the daily survival points by 1, which undoubtedly made Chen Xin feel it was a bit little, but in any case, being able to increase daily survival points was great news.

So Chen Xin confidently immersed himself in the kitchen transformation, wanting to set up a kitchen and see if he could earn more survival points.

However, although this plan was put on the schedule, and Chen Xin made an effort to organize a place to put the induction cooktop, pots, and utensils, without survival points, all this was just a look but couldn't be used.

Fortunately, the system provided a preview function, allowing Chen Xin to know that his idea of organizing a kitchen was achievable, otherwise, this pile of stuff he tidied up would only be called kitchenware, not a kitchen.

"Simple temporary kitchen"

"Upgrade Plan 1: Upgrade to integrated induction stove, add sink, add wall-mounted cabinets, 200 survival points needed for upgrade"

"Upgrade Plan 2: Add multifunctional integrated stove, add sink, add tabletop dishwasher, 350 survival points needed for upgrade"

Seeing that the system defaulted the consolidated induction cooktop and pots as a kitchen, Chen Xin felt relieved and excited.

This is because the system obviously wasn't limited to just upgrading existing rooms. He could arrange other items together through kitchen transformation, creating functional rooms like a medical room or gym, and even set up a gaming or entertainment room with unopened electronic products.

This was clearly more practical than just upgrading existing rooms or hoping for new rooms to appear by upgrading the entire shelter.

The survival points needed for kitchen upgrades weren't much, so Chen Xin decided that if there were no other upgrade options for the time being, the kitchen would be his first choice for the next upgrade.

Of course, besides the kitchen, a medical room was also Chen Xin's top choice, but unfortunately, even if he organized all his medical supplies together, the system didn't treat them as a medical room like it did kitchenware, but only viewed them as medical supplies, offering upgrade options like upgrading to a medical kit or medical equipment bag.

This left Chen Xin a bit frustrated, as it meant he wouldn't be able to get a medical room in a short time.

But that's normal, after all, the medical supplies he had were just an outdoor first aid kit and a home medicine box. The outdoor kit was a simplified version, suitable for minor injuries but not for performing surgeries like a battlefield first aid kit.

So if Chen Xin wanted to have a medical room, he would have to wait until the outside environment stabilized, go out to exchange or collect some medical supplies, and then attempt to integrate them into a medical room.

Of course, if Chen Xin were willing to invest all his survival points into medical supplies, continuously upgrading his first aid kit and medicine box, it might be possible to upgrade to a medical room.

However, such a medical room would be at a sci-fi level, consuming an amount of survival points that would be difficult for Chen Xin to endure.

Therefore, after careful consideration, Chen Xin gave up on the idea of creating a medical room.

At least until the external environment stabilized, and he could go out, Chen Xin did not plan to set up a medical room.

Moreover, even if he could go out, creating a medical room wouldn't be a priority unless necessary. Chen Xin thought it was better to go with the flow and consider a medical room when he had the capacity to collect medical resources.

After tossing and turning again, confirming the next upgrade plan was to upgrade the kitchen, Chen Xin put the first aid kit and medicine box back into the living room cabinet.

When putting back the first aid kit and medicine box, Chen Xin also noticed the large iron box under the cabinet, which was used to store various electronic products.

Because a meteor strike would disrupt the ionosphere causing an EMP shock wave, before entering the shelter, Chen Xin had already wrapped all electronic products in tin foil and locked them in the large iron box.

Only this way could they avoid being turned into a pile of scrap metal by the EMP shock wave caused by the meteor strike.

It's quite boring in the shelter. Even with the system's help, in the past few days, all Chen Xin did was farming, upgrading the ventilation system, modifying the kitchen, and organizing medical supplies. Most of the time, aside from worrying about the outside environment, there wasn't much else to do.

If Chen Xin didn't have the system, he might be in a constant state of anxiety and unrest.

After all, his preparations were nothing but the shelter, isolated inside and out. Without external information, whether he could successfully survive was an unknown, inevitably causing concern for his future and humanity's future.

Chen Xin certainly didn't want, when he opened the shelter doors and went outside in the future, to find that the entire Blue Star had been completely destroyed, and he was the only living person left in the world.

If it ever came to that, Chen Xin thought that slitting his throat might be a quicker relief.

He couldn't imagine the agony of living alone if he truly became the last person, dying of old age as the sole survivor.

The courage to continue facing loneliness and solitude, Chen Xin felt he might find it hard to do what the protagonist did in the movie "I Am Legend," surviving alone against dangers and solitude.

Thinking of this, Chen Xin couldn't help but want to take the electronic products out of the box again. Inside, besides phones, computers, and game consoles to pass the time, there was also a shortwave radio used to contact the outside world.

Before entering the shelter, Chen Xin had already agreed with his survival group friends to use the prearranged channel to send messages and contact each other once the shortwave radio could be used.

However, Chen Xin ultimately resisted this impulse and didn't open the iron box.

On one hand, the impact of the EMP shock wave may not have dissipated yet; on the other, even if taken out, the shortwave radio still couldn't be used.

Chen Xin's shelter wasn't just a basement dug underground. There was a mountain over two hundred meters above the entire shelter, and the thick soil layer not only protected Chen Xin and the shelter from external influence but also isolated all signal transmission.
